Staff Accountant Overview:
Sun Country Airlines is seeking a Staff Accountant to support our Stations Accounting team as we continue to grow our operations at a rapid pace. This individual will be responsible for processing invoices for various operating costs, resolving discrepancies with vendors, and maintaining an accurate record of outstanding vendor charges. In addition, this individual will be responsible for preparing month-end accruals, building/maintaining certain spreadsheet documents, preparing account reconciliations, and supporting system implementations and other process improvements while working in a fast-paced environment.
Reports to: Stations Accounting Manager
Work Location: Minneapolis, MN
Work Schedule: Core business hours
Essential roles and responsibilities of a Staff Accountant:
- Process station related invoices (fuel, ground handling, landing fees, terminal use fees, etc.)
- Prepare accruals for fuel, ground handling, landing fees, terminal use fees and other station expenses
- Proactively resolve billing discrepancies with vendors in a timely manner
- Prepare and distribute monthly operating reports to airports served by the Companys network
- Reconcile various general ledger balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
- Prepare journal entries for month-, quarter-, and year-end close
- Assist in preparing schedules and retrieving backup for both internal and external auditors
- Participate in accounting system implementations by providing input to system design, performing user acceptance testing, adapting to new processes and helping troubleshoot issues in a timely manner
- Other duties as assigned
The required qualifications we are looking for in a Staff Accountant include:
- Associates degree in accounting or finance
- Two years of relevant corporate accounting experience
- Strong organizational skills and ability to process high volumes of vendor invoices in a timely manner
- Intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office software products
- Experience using general ledger accounting systems
- Experience using accounts payable software
- Able to work overtime as required, particularly during month-end accounting close and during the annual audit process
- Must have authorization to work in the United States
- Able to speak, read, and understand English
- Able to communicate clearly with direct supervisor and other department managers
- Able to work collaboratively and flexibly within a team setting to ensure department objectives are successfully achieved
- Must have authorization to work in the United States
- Must pass a criminal history background check as well as a pre-employment drug test
Preferred requirements:
- Bachelors degree in accounting or finance
- Experience with Microsoft Great Plains accounting system
- Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel
- Prior involvement in process improvement initiatives and system implementations
