Overview of role:
This position reports to the Manager - Operations Coordination and is responsible for coordination and support of the daily flight schedule plans for WestJet in both regular and irregular operations. This position formulates, implements, and communicates daily operational functions and IROP (Irregular Operations) contingency plans. It also performs routine daily tasks to support everyday operations.
Key deliverables include:
- Formulate, implement, and communicate IROP contingency plans in conjunction with the Lead Operations Coordinator and external operational stakeholders.
- Monitor flight delays, cancellations, weather advisories, aircraft swaps, flight reroutes and other operational constraints and communicate to impacted operational stakeholders as required.
- Manage Movement Control Plot by performing functions, such as creating and altering flight segments, forecasting flight delays, identifying focus flights, etc.
- Manage gate assignments for various airports throughout WestJet’s network.
- Various additional routine tasks relating to operational coordination and communication.
- Coordinate operational support requirements between flight crews and airports.
- Liaise with flight crew, airports, and emergency response providers to ensure emergency services are provided as required by guests and/or flight crews.
- Support catering service requests and IROP communication.
- Communicate with flight crew via VHF radio.
- Shifts range from 8-12 hours in length and operate 24/7 365.
Experience & qualifications:
- Must be able and willing to work shift work in a 24/7 environment.
- Minimum 1 year of airline operational experience within a communications/coordination type of role.
- Working knowledge of Sabre and/or CAE applications, especially Movement Control Plot, is an asset.
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications required.
- Radio license (Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical) is required for the role, however WestJet will orchestrate testing to obtain the license if the potential candidate does not already possess.
- High degree of motivation and commitment to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively during high stress situations with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to communicate in a clear, accurate, concise, and professional manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the capability of establishing respect and credibility through actions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently prioritize workload.
- Must be able to work well with others in a team environment.
