Job Summary:
STS Technical Services is actively seeking a skilled Avionics Technician to join our team in Wheeling, Illinois. This role requires a solid understanding of avionics systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair components to the unit level. The Avionics Technician will be responsible for working on a variety of systems, including navigation, communication, radar, audio, and autopilot systems. Essential Functions:
- Daily Attendance: Be present at work every day as scheduled, including overtime and weekend assignments as needed. Reliable transportation is required.
- Avionics Support: Perform general avionics support on aircraft, including removal and installation of panels and components, as well as repair work.
- System Troubleshooting: Diagnose and evaluate aircraft systems, with a focus on avionics, when designated by the Avionics Team Leader.
- Inspection & Evaluation: Conduct inspections and evaluations of aircraft and components as assigned.
- Aircraft Operations: Assist with aircraft movement and perform verification of system operations.
- Facility Maintenance: Maintain shop facilities, equipment, and tooling to ensure operational readiness.
- Independent Work: Manage projects independently with minimal supervision.
- Additional Duties: Complete other job-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor or management.
Job Specifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Electrical tech school and avionics-specific factory training preferred.
- Licenses: A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal but not required.
- Experience: 3-5 years of aircraft maintenance experience, with at least 2 years working on turbine aircraft. Experience with FAA paperwork, work orders, and billing processes is essential.
- Initiative: Self-motivated, able to maintain a rapid work pace, and capable of processing tasks with minimal supervision. Must be comfortable dealing directly with customers, including conflict resolution.
Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Compliance: Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines.
- Safety Adherence: Follow all company and safety rules during the performance of duties.
- Customer Focus: Maintain customer-oriented work habits and complete all work orders, FAA paperwork, logbook entries, and billing items.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Routine walking, bending, squatting, and sitting.
- Routine or repetitive physical motions with arms and hands.
- Basic personal computer operation.
Mental Requirements:
- Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to troubleshoot and evaluate system operations.
- Ability to work with others in a professional manner.
Supervision:
- Work with minimal supervision from the Avionics Team Leader.
Working Conditions:
- Most work will be performed in a heated hangar, with occasional work outside during aircraft runs.
- Work may require varied positions in and around the aircraft.
Equipment Used:
- Personal hand tools supplied by the technician.
- Various electrical equipment, jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices.
- Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment.
- Personal computer and work order prints.
