Job Description SummaryAs PhD Intern – Power Electronics, you will independently execute and contribute to technology programs in design, modeling, analysis and control of advanced electrical power conversion systems, developing advanced power electronics topologies leveraging recent advancements in components, packaging and controls and deliver solutions for high power density, cost, quality and performance for power conversion system for hybrid electric and more electric applications. You will collaborate with GE Aerospace and Advanced Research Centre technologists to innovate for the future and deliver on our commitment to sustainability, safety and quality for our customers while advancing future of flight.
This is a paid internship and is typically structured for up to 6 months period or upon completion of PhD defense whichever is earlier. It may be extended or converted to a full-time employment based on performance, mutual interests, and business/program needs/funding.Job Description
Role Summary/Purpose:

Roles and Responsibilities
- Apply your power electronics and electrical system knowledge to simulate and analyze complete system models for aircraft power distribution system, hybrid electric propulsion system and more electric propulsion system.
- Simulate, analyze and design advanced electrical power conversion systems consisting of electromechanical systems, power electronics and controls.
- Design, develop and implement power converter, control, FPGA/DSP for hybrid electric/more electric applications.
- Develop and implement in hardware advanced controls of electrical system.
- Develop embedded controls using FPGA and microcontrollers.
- Conduct power electronics research involving modeling and simulation of components and circuits, design of power electronic circuits and controls, and test of lab scale circuit and system prototype.
- Design and develop high frequency resonant converters for Aerospace applications.
- Deliver on technical projects with guidance to meet project requirements.
- Participate in a team on technology programs to enable future design advancements, while demonstrating independence in executing tasks leveraging your technical skills
Required Qualifications
- Submitted Ph.D. thesis in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Electronics Converter and Control. You should have approval from your University & Doctoral Advisor to pursue this opportunity. Candidates pursuing graduate studies worldwide authorized to work in India are also welcomed to apply for this internship.
- Demonstrated fundamental knowledge in Electrical Engineering, power electronics and control, magnetics for power converter.
- Strong expertise in simulation and analysis of electrical systems and electromechanical systems
- Understanding of power devices and their gate driver
- Understanding of EMI/EMC
- Understanding of electronics packaging
- Hands-on PCB design, hardware design and build experience in power circuits and systems
- Experience designing and developing high frequency magnetics.
- Experience in circuit and system simulation tools such as PLECS, Saber, Matlab/Simulink etc.
- Experience FPGA/Microcontroller programming
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Unfailing dedication to deadlines and commitments
Desired Characteristics
- Research in any one of the following areas: Power Electronics and Control, EMI modeling, wireless power transfer, magnetics for power converters
- Experience in circuit and system simulation tools such as PLECS, Saber, Matlab/Simulink etc.
- Experience FPGA/Microcontroller programming
