Lockheed Martin Enterprise Operations is seeking a motivated and passionate intern to contribute to projects ranging from prototype development and software platform engineering to AI infrastructure and AI-enabled product deployment. The Lockheed Martin Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) team is responsible for serving as a center of excellence for AI at Lockheed Martin both internally and externally. As an intern, you will work to disseminate best practices of the LAIC, build prototypes of new capabilities, and be a part of product teams solving larger-scale integrations.
The successful candidate will have beginner experience in areas like: software engineering, DevOps, artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML). While working with a supportive team, key intern responsibilities include:
• Creative ML work
• Software development & containerization
• Display & database integration
• Working in high performance compute environments
• Partnering with the peer engineering organizations and business stakeholders
• Customer focused work & deployment to the edge
The candidate will need a combination of business focus, creative thinking, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and programming knowledge to be able to quickly cycle hypotheses through the discovery phase of the project. Successful candidates demonstrate excitement to learn new technologies and methodologies, while also being a collaborative teammate. Excellent communications skills are required to understand the needs of the business and to communicate the value of the models built back to the business.
The team may need to travel domestically for the annual team meeting. This is a great opportunity to meet and connect with team members in person.
Basic Qualifications:
• Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Information Sciences and Technology, or STEM related degree from an accredited college
• Prior coursework or project experience in computer science, data science, or machine learning
• Basic experience with Python
• Beginner experience in a programming language or with IT principles such as networking and storage
• US Citizenship required due to system access
• Demonstrated motivation to learn new technologies
Desired Skills:
• Experience with DevSecOps software development practices
• Experience with Go, and/or Bash
• Experience in applying any of the following techniques to business problems: supervised regression/classification, natural language processing, deep learning, anomaly detection, and reinforcement learning
• Experience evaluating model performance, including appropriate performance metric selection
• Familiarity with Kubernetes (ex: Container Storage Interfaces (CSI), Persistent Volumes, Helm/Kustomize)
• Familiarity with Pipeline and GitOps Automation, such as ArgoCD, Tekton, Gitlab CI/CD

Ability to Work Remotely: Full-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work remotely full time at a location other than a Lockheed Martin designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a Lockheed Martin office for periodic meetings.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Washington or Washington DC is $53,664 - $61,672. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidates work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as spanet and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
