Job Description:

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or related subject area.
  • Good Knowledge of CATIA V5 or SolidWorks 3D design software (minimum 500 hours).
  • Good knowledge of mechanical tolerances and typical understanding of basic machine principles.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must have proven proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work within a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to write and maintain technical specifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of math and geometry and be able to work in both metric and English units of measure.
  • Capability to assess tooling cost and lead time.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in Mechanical engineering or related subject area
  • Experience in either Engineering design, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling Design, or other relevant experience.
  • Experience with data management software & CNC programming skills.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement Programs (5S, Lean, Six-Sigma, etc).
  • Experience writing methodology related to ME functions.
  • Aerospace experience.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing machines and technology.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

  • Design tooling to support Production in reducing cost and achieving first time quality.
  • Create 3D models in CATIA V5, 2D drawings/graphics, sketches and written instructions to support tooling design activities.
  • Coordinate Tooling installation, certification and first article review.
  • Design tooling with CATIA V5 and analyze requirements which may include discussions with Engineering, Production, Manufacturing Engineering and QC.
  • Design tooling with standard (off the shelf) components to minimize tooling cost.
  • Coordinate and participate with the tooling offload activity.
  • Observe all safety procedures when creating tooling to ensure safe operation of the tooling.
  • Receive initial instructions, requirements, and advice from Team Leader.
  • Challenge tooling request due to invalid input from either Production or ME for the purpose of determining more efficient or cost-effective alternatives.
  • Evaluate engineering drawings/3D models and determines the most cost effective method for developing tooling.
  • Work in collaboration with Engineering, Production, Manufacturing Engineering and QC to achieve first-time quality.
