Job Description SummaryThe Advanced Lead Engineer – Preliminary Design Lifecycle Cost leads model creation and uses these models to predict the maintenance cost of GE’s next generation of engines. As part of the Preliminary Design organization the focus is on future GE engines incorporating new technologies. The Advanced Lead Engineer will generate models using a data from production engines, collaboration with technologists working new technologies, and their own engineering judgement. They then will collaborate with multiple teams inside GE to influence the engine design and the business case. Essential Responsibilities
In the role of Advanced Lead Engineer – Preliminary Design Lifecyle Cost you will build and exercise detailed models that consider the time on wing and maintenance cost for engines in the preliminary design phase. These engines represent GE Aerospace’s future and incorporate cutting edge technologies to lower fuel burn of aircraft. This supports GE’s goal of more sustainable aviation.
It is the responsibility of this engineer to manage complex issues requiring engineering knowledge and business acumen. A successful candidate will be able to balance competing engineering and financial requirements and propose innovative solutions.
Additionally in the role of Advanced Lead Engineer – Preliminary Design Maintenance Cost your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborate with teams of engineers and technologists to understand new state of the art technologies and determine their maintenance needs.
- Extract data from GE’s current engines and modify it as required to represent future engines.
- Lead cross-functional teams including mechanical designers, performance engineers, and business case analysts to explore options that balance financial and engineering goals.
- Collaborate globally across GE Aerospace’s multiple sites worldwide.
- Lead durability, weight or cost reviews / audits as required for customer commitments and design space studies.
- Lead the development and integration of parametric tools to enable parametric design space exploration and optimization studies.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
- Execute with limited guidance the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements.
- Recommend approach to meet the technical and program requirements.
- Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules and contract commitments.
- Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems.
- Provide technical guidance to other personnel and global / cross-functional assigned teams; mentor others in the organization.
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments.
- Lead or participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and / or tasks.
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Programming (or related field) from an accredited University or College
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering position
Desired Characteristics
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mechanical engineering, supply chain, sourcing, or manufacturing operations position
- Understanding of business cases including initial production and maintenance over the life of a product
- Experience with maintenance cost estimation for turbine engines or similar equipment
- Experience with manufacturing cost estimation
- Understanding of assembly processes for turbine engines or similar equipment
- Experience with Unigraphics NX or similar CAD program
- Exposure to compressor or turbine aerodynamics
- Experience with fleet modeling/ICAM
- Prior experience leading global cross-functional teams
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to guide and influence others
- Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work
- Exposure to both military and commercial engine design requirements
- Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
