Operating within the Advanced Technologies department at GE Aerospace, you will be involved in designing, assessing, and launching GE’s next generation of propulsion systems, collaborating closely with the commercial & engineering teams. This will include taking responsibility for mechanical design, integration, and cost considerations in the early stages of next-generation aircraft engine development. Essential Responsibilities:
Generate and refine innovative and environmentally sustainable architecture concepts that provide a significant competitive advantage for GE Aerospace.
Utilize hand calculations, design practices, and legacy experience for designing engine components/modules.
Develop engine cross-sections to meet propulsion system requirements, including engine size, weight, and performance.
Identify risks and opportunities of the engine design, working with multi-disciplinary teams to mitigate risk and mature opportunities.
Interact with a wide range of communities, including Systems, Project, other engine disciplines, detailed designers, supply chain, and sourcing, to assess technology capability and maturity in support of business objectives.
Develop processes for the preliminary analysis of components based on Design Practices and Design Process Templates, leveraging digital tools as necessary.
Communicate results, findings, and observations clearly and concisely in documents such as presentations, reports, memos, and technical articles.
Engage with peers and program leaders through formal and informal design reviews.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
5+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering position.
A solid understanding of gas turbine and mechanical engineering fundamentals.
Demonstrate a high level of problem-solving ability through hand calculations and free body diagrams.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Desired Characteristics:
Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Have 7+ years of professional or research experience in an aerospace or mechanical engineering domain
Exhibit effective multitasking skills, consistently delivering projects on time and with high-quality outcomes.
Showcase a systems thinking approach to problem-solving.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Ability to guide and influence others.
