Job Description SummarySystems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- The Performance Lead Engineer will support the definition, development, and testing, of XA100 engines. Responsibilities include integration with various design groups and customers to support the development, and predict the performance capability of the engines. Near term activities will focus on bringing the XA100 design through Key design milestones as well as support of key engine design work and follow on program activities.
Activities Include
- Lead thermodynamic cycle development and analysis using NPSS
- Lead and perform trade studies to evaluate alternative design options
- Provide options to solve performance issues encountered
- Preparation of presentations in support of the program
- Present in technical program reviews
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Support test planning and coverage
- Lead analysis of test data using NPSS data reduction models
- Establish and grow working relationships with internal and/or external interfaces
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college
- US Citizen
- Currently have or the ability to obtain a Government Security Clearance
Desired Characteristics
- Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college
- Experience with system level thermodynamic modeling and / or data analysis activities
- Working knowledge of NPSS
- Working knowledge of data plotting tools
- Working knowledge of thermodynamics and aerodynamics
- Strong oral and written communication skills
