Job Description SummaryIn Preliminary Cycle Design, you will work with the Commercial Engine Project & Engineering teams to design, assess, and launch GE’s next generation of products. This will include modeling both novel & derivative propulsion systems, executing design space trade studies, and assessing strengths / weaknesses of each concept to influence GE strategic focus areas, customer requirements & proposal evaluation criteria, and to help prioritize GE technology investments. The Advanced Lead Engineer will work with the design team to develop innovative design concepts, simultaneously meeting aggressive cost, performance and emissions targets for key next generation engine applications. They will lead multi-functional and global teams to find optimal systems level solutions to new challenges.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

In the role of Advanced Lead Preliminary Cycle Design Engineer, you will integrate and develop propulsion concepts that meet business needs across the organization, support system level decisions for architecture designs, perform trade studies and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Additionally, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead programs & projects working with internal & external customers to create propulsion solutions for the next generation of aircraft across a wide range of commercial products, including business, regional, narrow-body, and wide-body aircraft.
  • Build & execute aero-thermal models of new concept & derivative engines, aligning input from component design teams to customer requirements.
  • Partner with Preliminary Mechanical Design engineers to ensure end-to-end propulsion system feasibility.
  • Coordinate with a cross-functional team of adjacent disciplines (aero, mechanical, systems) to assess technology capability & maturity in support of business objectives.
  • Communicate with leadership to help shape the future propulsion strategy.
  • Execute the analysis and evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures, and the product or program requirements.
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments to program and engineering leadership.
  • Participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and tasks including establishment of processes and best practices.
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews across engine programs.
  • Lead the GE Aviation cultural transformation coaching and mentoring, fostering inclusive environments, and driving a systematic approach to Lean.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an aero-thermal and/or performance-based engineering position.

  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market, and manage programs
