Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Co-Op Intern to join our Engineering department based in Columbus, MS.

You will join a team developing and documenting repair procedures and associated stress reports for damaged aircraft, crafting engineering change orders, updating of existing drawings, creation of new drawings, creation of CAD models from legacy data, and establishing a catalog of existing CAD data.

Our Engineers take our aircraft from concept to customer delivery – working with production teams on every aspect of assembly from handling technical information, quality control, maintenance tasks and health & safety – along flowlines and flightlines. Join us and watch our aircraft come to life.

Your working environment:

On the eastern border of Mississippi you’ll find Columbus, home to our Helicopter manufacturing and assembly lines and Center of Excellence for the entire North America region. It’s here that we produce the UH-72A Lakota Helicopters for the U.S. Army in addition to the H-125 aircraft for civil and commercial customers.

Your challenges:

Detail Design: 75

  • Create engineering change orders
  • Create CAD models from legacy data
  • Establish a catalog of existing CAD data
  • Assist in the accomplishment of engineering airframe designs, analysis, commercial completions, major repairs, major modifications and development programs requiring any type of mechanical or airframe analysis, detail design and testing.

Engineering Support: 15

  • Assist engineers in developing and documenting repair procedures and associated stress reports for damaged aircraft
  • Act as liaison to manufacturing and production efforts as needed.

Structural Substantiation: 5

  • Performs preliminary stress analysis in support of initial layout and design concepts.

Project Coordination: 5

  • Coordinates crucial information into the configuration management system listing mechanical and structural installations for each aircraft unit produced by AHI

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your boarding pass:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) or equivalent degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University or the University of Alabama (inc. UA - Huntsville), required
  • Responsibilities will require resourcefulness, organizational skills and the ability to coordinate activities across company functions
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in 2D or 3D design of detail parts, assemblies and/or installations, preferred
  • Basic knowledge of 2D or 3D mechanical or structural design requirements, required
  • Able to communicate effectively in the English language (verbal and written).
  • Exposure to 2D software (AutoCAD, or similar), preferred
  • Exposure to 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar), preferred

  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms daily.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications every day.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts daily.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs every day.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs daily. Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools every day.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer daily.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving every day.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor daily.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice every day.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces daily.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as needed by site and/or customer site
