NAV CANADA is hiring a Communications Engineering Co-op Student to join our Communications Engineering Team! As a Co-op Student, you will improve your skills and gain valuable on-the-job work experience while being actively involved in Air Traffic Control voice communications initiatives. Job Description
As the Communications Engineering Co-op student, you will be working with technology specialists and communications systems engineers to contribute to various initiatives that are within the scope of NAV CANADA’s voice communications portfolio, including Air Traffic Control voice communications systems, voice recording systems and VHF radio systems. This could include research into the application of new technologies to support ongoing initiatives, including the development of tools to support automated testing and management of test environments.
This role involves:
- Development and analysis of Requirements
- Development of tools to support the testing and support of Air Traffic Control voice communications equipment.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- Great organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and dependable.
- Motivation to learn and gain valuable experience.
- Must be a team player.
Programs and Level:
- Students working towards a degree in Engineering, specializing in Electrical, Computer, Software or similar disciplines.
Work Environment:
- The work is performed during weekdays in a hybrid office environment in Ottawa.
- The work term is 4 months: from May to August 2025.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of IT systems, including IP Networks, Operating Systems and Virtualized Computing
- Knowledge of analogue electronics.
- Knowledge of scripting, computer programming and test automation.
- Ability to gather and document information from multiple sources, conduct analyses, and generate actionable insights.
- Ability to identify complex problems, research options, implement and document solutions.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, visually, and in writing with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience
- Experience in systems engineering topics such as requirements, design and verification.
- Experience working within a team environment.

Work Location:
- This position is located at 280 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa, ON.
- A minimum of 3 days per week at the office is required.
