What does this internship consist of

Together with Camilo José Cela University, Airbus has developed an exclusive program (DISCOVER) designed for those interested in the best possible training on the areas of knowledge that are essential for the present and future of work. 

You will have the opportunity to study a Master, organized in three training blocks, that will allow you to DISCOVER the skills most in demand today. It will be combined with an 11-month internship at Airbus in an area related to your degree, where you will learn and round off your academic profile. 

The start of the internship will be in early March 2025, and will last 11 months (August disabled for all purposes). It is a full-time experience (40h/week), in which you will receive an attractive study grant. 

Internship Job Description

Pursuing Airbus DS continuous improvement policy of the A330 MRTT BOOM automatic control capabilities, the candidate will join a project team in charge of the design and operational evaluation in simulated environment of new automatic boom control capabilities, as well as continuous improvement of existing / certified capabilities, based on in service experience and data. Additionally, operational in service data will be converted through automatic analysis into actionable operational insights, as an input to design improvement and also customer operational support.

- Tasks to be carried out by the student:

1. In service data operational analytics and automation for generation of relevant dashboards.

2. Concept, preliminary design, from high level specification to functional / performance simulation and operational evaluation in Simulated environment, of new boom control automatic capabilities and continuous improvement and optimization of existing capabilities.

3. Architectural analysis, especially regarding SW architecture and functional allocation to Air Refueling Boom System subsystems / equipment.

4. Simulation test requirements, coordination of operational evaluation of modifications with Boom Operators to iterate over the initial design.

5. Improvement of Simulation automatic scenarios for representative operational evaluation.

- Knowledge to be acquired by the student:

1. System concept design, architecture / functional specification process, validation in simulation environment.

2. Incremental boom control automation process.

3. Air to Air Refueling techniques, standards, BOOM system.

4. Advanced data analytics / automation as a key asset in operational support and system / training means continuous improvement.

  

- Within which projects or areas the internship will be carried out: Air Refueling Boom System automatic control capabilities development, as part of the research and development effort to prepare the next system upgrade enhancing the BOOM A3R, with the goal of reducing human workload while increasing safety and operational efficiency.  

- Specify the tools to be used:

1. Internal data analytics tools, development and automation of analytics scripts in Python, and dashboard/visualization scripts.

2. Matlab, Simulink for systems simulation and analysis.

3. Integration of system simulations into BOOM Simulator environment, aiming at increasing representativity (Simulink, VisualStudio, C&43;&43;, SEAS).

As a successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

- Degree in Aerospace Engineer, Electronic Systems Engineer, or equivalent

- English: conversation level, technical written documentation level  

- Spanish: conversation level.

- General knowledge in Simulation / Matlab-Simulink, Data Processing / analysis

- Skills valued: team work, proactive, self-motivated and disciplined (time management, communication, presentation skills…), innovative and creative to challenge status quo and propose new solutions / process to solve the problems presented

- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
