The Director AI Strategy and Design partners with Leaders across Southwest to shape our Company&39;s AI and Data Transformation strategy. This role will leverage strategic expertise and identify and evaluate AI opportunities, as well as lead high-level design efforts to assess, value, and solve business challenges by utilizing AI and data solutions. The Director of AI Strategy and Design is innovative problem solver who is excited to lead their Teams to collaborate and help Southwest create value from AI initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and articulate the company&39;s AI and Data Transformation strategy in alignment with business objectives, the Southwest Way, and marketplace trends
  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and prioritization of AI opportunities across various business domains to create the AI portfolio, and manage demand and pipeline of AI projects to prioritize work based on impact, relevance, urgency, and Leadership demand
  • Establish KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness and impact of AI initiatives
  • Stay on top of emerging technologies, research advancements, and industry best practices in AI to inform strategic decision-making
  • Create and facilitate the design thinking process to design AI solutions tailored to business pain points and optimal value / business outcomes, collaborating with key stakeholders to define high-level needs, assess feasibility, and drive adoption of AI solutions
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Team members, fostering their professional growth and development, and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous learning
  • Act as an advisor and thought leader to Executive-Level Leadership on AI-related topics, helping to frame strategic questions, generate hypotheses, interpret analyses, and inform decision making
  • Serve as a SME on AI-related topics to build Southwests brand in the AI space, representing the Company at industry forums, conferences, and events
  • Act as a Servant Leader to inform and equip Leaders across the Company about how they can implement AI to help their Teams and sustain low-cost operations at scale
  • Partner with Teams to foster execution of AI projects, aligning with strategic goals, timelines, and budgets:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to build and manage advisory relationships with Executive-level Leaders
  • Ability to combine quantitative analysis, qualitative learnings, business objectives, and intrapersonal context into compelling, actionable storylines
  • Ability to apply learnings and context across projects to contribute to Southwest&39;s strategic plan
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence Executive-level decision making
  • Ability and strong desire to mentor AI Team Members
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into strategic business initiatives
  • Ability to be a strategic thinker with a forward-looking mindset, capable of anticipating future trends and opportunities in AI
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
  • Advanced level Business Acumen in functional area
  • Seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
    • Developing and executing company-wide strategies
    • Understanding of AI technologies, algorithms, and methodologies, with hands-on experience in their application
    • Managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and driving results in a complex and evolving landscape
  • Preferred: Experience with Traditional AI, Gen AI, design / prototype tools such as Figma, human-centered design / design thinking expertise, financial and business acumen, storytelling

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $204,300 per year to $227,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
