Collins Aerospace, a leader in aerospace and defense solutions, is looking for a driven and detail-oriented Electrical Certification Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, youll play a pivotal part in the development and certification of advanced electrical components integrated into seating and furniture systems across a wide range of aircraft.

What you will do:

  • Certification Leadership: Develop test plans, substantiation reports, and oversee testing to ensure our electrical components meet all relevant requirements.
  • Documentation Excellence: Create and review essential documentation, including Grounding & Bonding, System Safety Assessments, Failure Hazard Assessments, and more, ensuring comprehensive coverage and compliance.
  • Design Review Oversight: Lead Design Reviews to align programs with requirements and milestone timelines, ensuring quality and precision.
  • Process Development: Develop templates and work instructions to maintain high standards of quality, such as First Pass Yield and First Time Fix, in line with Collins Management Expectations.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest OEM, STC, and FAA regulations, ensuring that our products remain at the cutting edge of safety and innovation.
  • Problem Solving: Analyze and address technical deficiencies in the qualification of programs at both the LRU and System levels, driving continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Support: Contribute to strategic planning for complex programs, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and business targets.
  • Global Engagement: Prepare and present plans and reports, support sales and spaneting efforts, and provide executive consultation and guidance on advanced technologies.
  • Regulatory Interaction: Regularly engage with regulatory authorities, draft NPRM responses, and handle certifications with both domestic and international certification bodies.

What you will learn:

Advanced Certification Processes:

  • Regulatory Mastery: Gain deep knowledge of FAA, OEM, and STC regulations, and learn how to ensure that electrical components meet all necessary safety and compliance standards.
  • Documentation Excellence: Develop expertise in creating, reviewing, and managing complex documentation, including Grounding & Bonding reports, System Safety Assessments, Failure Hazard Assessments, and more.
  • Certification Strategy: Learn to develop and execute certification strategies that align with both regulatory requirements and business objectives.

Technical Skills in Aerospace Systems:

  • Electrical Systems Design: Enhance your understanding of electrical system design, architecture, and validation processes for aviation seating and furniture across a variety of aircraft, including those from Boeing, Airbus, Gulfstream, and Embraer.
  • Failure Analysis: Learn advanced techniques for conducting Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), helping to ensure the reliability and safety of aerospace components.

Project Management and Leadership:

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Program Managers, Certification Engineers, and Design Engineers to develop and execute complex program plans, gaining experience in leading and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Design Review Leadership: Learn how to oversee and lead Design Reviews, ensuring that projects stay aligned with requirements, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop skills in strategic planning for complex programs, helping to shape the direction of critical aerospace projects.

Continuous Improvement and Quality Assurance:

  • Process Development: Learn how to create and refine templates, work instructions, and processes that ensure high quality and consistency in engineering work, contributing to First Pass Yield and First Time Fix targets.
  • Problem Solving: Gain experience in identifying and addressing technical deficiencies, driving continuous improvement in both product design and certification processes.

Global Industry Exposure:

  • Regulatory Engagement: Regularly interact with regulatory authorities, both domestic and international, learning how to navigate complex certification processes and influence industry standards.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position

Qualification we prefer:

  • Collaborative Expertise: Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams to develop and execute complex aviation program plans.
  • Technical Mastery: Strong understanding of design architecture for electrical systems within aircraft, particularly those manufactured by Boeing, Airbus, Gulfstream, and Embraer.

Industry Knowledge: Experience in supporting the design, development, and validation of electrical components for various aircraft types, including B747, B767, B777, B787, B737, A321, A320, A330, A340, and A350

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
