Essential Responsibilities
Interface with the Supply Chain and definition of requirements for materials and special processes including material characterization of mechanical and physical properties, heat treatment, shot peening, non-destructive testing and other special processes to ensure proper quality maintenance. Review supplier documentation, perform audits, and evaluate test results against GE and Avio Aero requirements.
Resolve material processing related issues encountered during manufacturing and throughout the component life cycle while in service. In consultation with Design Engineering, determine proper disposition of discrepant hardware through case records. Review quality records, composition, and mechanical properties to detect trends that may indicate undesirable changes in product quality.
Interpret material and special process specifications and part drawings. Ensure that acceptance / inspection procedures and processing instructions are suitable, complete and properly controlled during the application of manufacturing procedures.
Develop and lead long term research and development programs on materials and processes. Execute developmental testing programs of engine or test hardware to qualify part processing.
Qualifications/Requirements
Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical or Aeronautic Engineering or related discipline with experience in an industrial environment.
Knowledge of gears and housings materials: steels, aluminum and magnesium alloys. Experience in material testing.
Familiarity with shop operations and quality systems.
Proficiency in English and Italian (both written and verbal).
Work Visa, in accordance with local regulation, is required.
Desired Characteristics
PhD in Materials Science or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical or Aeronautic Engineering or related discipline with experience in an industrial environment.
Previous experience in a similar position and/or in a complex industrial environment.
Green belt or Black Belt certification and/or Statistics knowledge.
NDT qualifications.
Proven self-starter and independent worker able to interact with cross-functional teams.
Fast in action but with detailed technical review and good documentation.
Strong teamwork and communication skills, eager to learn continuously.
