Job Description SummaryProduct Safety Engineering is a specialized discipline within the Systems engineering domain that is focused on ensuring the safety of our products throughout their full lifecycle (i.e. R&D, new product development, and in-service operations). This requires Product Safety Engineers to apply industry best practices for Safety analyses to identify potential hazards and assess the risks posed to operations of both civil and military aircraft.
During product development, Product Safety Engineers assess the safety impacts of product failures/malfunctions and then work with cross-functional engineering teams to define appropriate safety features into the product. Once a product transitions into operation, Product Safety Engineers support investigations into potential safety concerns with fielded products to ensure that our products are meeting customer and regulatory expectations for safety performance. This requires the close coordination with internal engineering teams as well as our customers.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for learning and then implementing product safety and reliability engineering methodologies and techniques for systems and equipment .
- Execute industry best practices to identify and mitigate safety risks inherent to the product design to an acceptable level; support conducting rigorous safety risk assessments, hazard evaluations, utilize human factors principles to drive design improvements in order to eliminate human error in the operation and maintenance of the product in the field.
- Developing specialized knowledge in the Product Safety discipline by working with internal and external Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
- Uses judgment to help the team make decisions and solve highly complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product safety risk management.
- Explains difficult or sensitive information to internal leaders and works to build consensus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college in engineering (e.g. electrical, computer engineering, or aerospace) or a related discipline from an accredited university or college.
- No previous years of related experience required.
Desired Characteristics
- Prior internship or co-op experience within an engineering function supporting a highly regulated industry.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
