JOB SUMMARYCarries out engineering assignments concerned with the planning and design of mechanically functioning equipment and processes. Performs drawing reviews from Drafters/Designers. Supports Engineers for simple to medium level complexity projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESDesigns mechanical equipment, systems and processes. Performs calculations and analyses to ensure suitability of design. Solves problems related to the assembly, repair and test of environmental control systems. Under general supervision, performs assignments which involve responsibility for a secondary project or a part of a major project. May give direction to Drafters/Designers.
Works with colleagues in the department and in other departments. Writes reports as required. Presents designs to peers, other engineers and customers.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required)
Must be a US Citizen
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBSME or equivalent. Zero to three years of experience in designing mechanical components/subsystems and applying ASME Y14.5M. Works under constant supervision. Performs assignments of mild complexity and assists other Engineers.Knowledge of drawing and drafting standards. Knowledge of applied thermodynamics and mechanical design. Experience in the development of military or aerospace equipment is a strong plus. Understanding of military specifications, environmental specifications, and test specifications a plus. Experience with electrical and electrical circuits and control theory a plus. Hands-on test and hardware experience is desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations. Ability to communicate in English. Must have good communication skills. Ability to communicate technical concepts in writing. Minimal presentation skills. Requires strong oral/written communication skills and must be capable of conducting effective oral presentations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLSMust be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint and also possess the ability to create spreadsheets, word processing documents and presentations. CAD knowledge a plus with emphasis in SolidWorks preferred. Knowledge in analysis software desired.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED ON THE JOBSolidWorks CAD system. Hand tools. May use mechanical hand tools when assembling prototypes or test setups.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS Position involves sitting, standing and/or walking. Position requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move/lift objects and occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move/lift objects. May involve some lifting. Involves sitting at desk and reading computer screen. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, or walk. This position requires that the employee be able to hear and speak clearly.
Must keep current with engineering field. Capable of providing field support to customers. Travel is occasionally required. Extended hours and overtime are occasionally required to meet job requirements. Accountability to established schedules and/or time pressures required.
WORK ENVIRONMENTThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Work usually performed in air-conditioned office environment. Some work will occasionally be performed in the shop. Shop environment contains hazardous materials, dust, moving equipment, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, and metal chips from cutting, milling, drilling and turning operations. Employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts.
Must have the ability to be flexible and deal with changing conditions as required.
The wage range for this role considers allowances for a number of factors, including but not limited to required experience, skill level, prior training, licensure/certifications, education and other business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $67,418 - $108,839.
