Engineering Software Systems Intern
Job Summary:
This position will support the creation and maintenance of Bal Seal Engineering’s extensive portfolio of software applications and systems. The position requires an interest towards understanding legacy technologies, system architecture, and a passion for making complex technical information accessible and understandable. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, good problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work collaboratively across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation for a selection from approximately 500 software applications across 63 systems, including ColdFusion (400 applications) and Visual Basic (40 applications).
- Document system architecture, code structure, database interactions, and integration points within the application suite.
- Write user manuals, API documentation, installation guides, troubleshooting steps, and system administration procedures.
- Conduct interviews and review code to understand functionality and workflow.
- Organize and version control documentation, ensuring it is easily accessible and up-to-date.
- Develop a consistent template or style guide for documentation to ensure uniformity across the portfolio.
- Write and update documentation for server configurations, specifically IIS servers and ColdFusion server updates.
- Maintain detailed records of system configurations, server updates, and change management activities.
- Ensure that documentation is clear, concise, and easy to follow for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Education:
- Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Engineering Technology / Computer Science / Information Technology or equivalent
Experience:
- No experience required, 1 year preferred
- Knowledge of programming logic and GUI
- Experience with ColdFusion and Visual Basic is a plus
- Knowledge of web server administration, especially IIS, and application server configurations is a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have excellent technical writing skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Detail-oriented with strong emphasis on accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic understanding of engineering concepts
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements:
- This position is mainly sedentary and is therefore, required to sit
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Work Environment:
