The Aerojet Rocketdyne Business Segment of L3Harris is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our growing Huntsville, Alabama facility.
This position will work in the Advanced Manufacturing Facility’s (AMF) Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory and will be responsible for conducting tests to support material acceptance testing, material shelf-life extension testing, and inert materials characterization. This position will report to the Materials and Process Engineering AMF Laboratory Manager in Huntsville, AL.
Essential Functions:
- Test non-metallic materials using a variety of measurement instruments such as balances, universal testing machines, ovens, hotplates, hydraulic presses, and various hardness testers.
- Lay-up, cure, and inspect non-metallic materials such as resin preimpregnated woven fabrics as needed, utilizing equipment such as ovens, caul plates, hydraulic presses, and autoclaves.
- Conduct testing according to Industry standards (ASTM/MIL/ISO), standard work documents and custom work requests.
- Measure and record data, performing calculations as required and according to material specification requirements; generate reports as needed.
- Assist non-conformance investigations for both production and development programs by performing relevant testing and communicating the extent of information gained.
- Communicate with members from other teams and departments to facilitate work.
- Maintain laboratory readiness and cleanliness through 5S+1, kitting, and continuous improvement.
- Travel is not expected with this position; however, maximum travel is estimated to be 10.
Qualifications:
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience working in a laboratory environment
- Knowledge of Instron test equipment (load cells and extensometers) is desired
- Knowledge of rubber rheometry equipment (Moving Die Rheometer and Mooney Viscometer) is desired
