Firepower Hardware Engineer
Sterling Heights, MI
Contract Position
Join a team dedicated to designing and producing armored combat and support vehicles. As a prime mover in ground force capabilities, this firm provides innovative solutions that ensure the safety and effectiveness of military personnel worldwide, focusing on durability, mobility, and performance.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and integrate firepower systems, weapon assemblies, and related components to support advanced armored vehicle platforms.
- Design, develop, integrate, and release systems, subsystem assemblies, and components for firepower hardware and ammunition handling mechanisms.
- Focus on gun/turret drives, racerings, and various weapon system integrations on both legacy and new vehicle platforms.
- Perform preliminary design, failure analysis, and corrective action planning to meet engineering requirements.
- Generate CAD models and design concepts, ensuring they align with Human Factors and functional specifications.
- Collaborate with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to communicate across functional areas and support concurrent engineering efforts.
- Support procurement and on-site prototype build and integration, resolving issues as they arise.
- Conduct tolerance stack analyses and apply GD&T principles where applicable.
- Document work through technical reports, modification instructions, and engineering drawings.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Experience: 5–7 years in a professional engineering role, preferably in defense or heavy equipment industries.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD modeling and design for mechanical components and systems.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and ability to read technical drawings.
- Familiarity with FEA software (e.g., ANSA, Nastran, LS-DYNA) preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work in office, shop, plant, test lab, and field environments.
- Willingness to work overtime and travel as required.
