IT Applications Designer in GAC Savannah


Unique Skills:

DUTIES: Design, develop, test, and implement application software including client, server, and middleware. Design, build, and develop algorithms and data structures. Participate in application performance monitoring and tuning. Create software design at the component level based on the application architecture and the detailed business requirements. Develop strategies for the monitoring, preventive maintenance, and disaster recovery of applications. Serve as technical expert in at least one application within a portfolio. Assure solution designs meet requirements for scalability, performance, and quality in accordance with negotiated service level agreements. Participate in the assessment and resolution of software defects. Assist project management with the development of work breakdown structures, project plans, and skills required to develop and implement applications. Participate in design reviews for implementation projects. Conduct technical evaluations. Participate in the review, business case development, and implementation of software development tools, methodology, and software development standards. Understand IS Security measures and current standards, practices, and technology. Serve as liaison with suppliers for sustaining activities. Assist with evaluations and recommendations regarding purchased software packages and supporting services. Use knowledge of technology and existing systems to mentor junior staff on building and maintaining application systems. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Systems, Engineering, or a related field required. Four years of experience in a related position required, including any experience with: aerospace manufacturing processes and procedures; expertise in implementing, modifying, and testing applications in Cloudview, Teamcenter, Enova SmarTeam, Agile, ITIL, Linux, Oracle, and SQL; system lifecycle methodologies and software development tools and standards; working in teams; MS Office; identifying tasks requiring automation; writing proposals and making presentations to internal customers and professional peers; and providing technical direction for application development teams. In lieu of a Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Systems, Engineering, or a related field and 4 years of experience, a Masters degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Systems, Engineering, or a related field and 2 years of the above-listed experience is acceptable. Must pass credit history check from a national credit bureau.

Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or relevant curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 6 years experience as an IT professional with broad experience across multiple IT disciplines or 4 years specific system configuration, development and deployment experience.

  3. Using knowledge of technology and existing systems, mentors junior staff on building and maintaining application systems. .

Other Requirements:

  1. Expert in one or more software development languages.
  2. IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) exposure is desired.
  3. Solid understanding of system lifecycle methodologies, software development tools and standards.
  4. Experience working in teams.
  5. Proficiency with an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) desired.
  6. Proficiency with MS Office.
  7. Ability to solve problems quickly and completely. Ability to identify tasks which require automation.
  8. Strong inter-personal and communication skills; must be capable of explaining complex procedures in writing or verbally. Must be able to write proposals and make presentations to internal customers and professional peers.
  9. Provides technical direction for application development teams.
  10. A Masters degree may be used to offset one year of experience; PhD may offset two years of experience.

A credit history check from a national credit bureau will be conducted for all candidates for this position including new hires and current employees seeking promotion or transfer.
