Role Summary
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing lessons and leading development of eLearning and Instructor-Led Training programs for the Airport Operations & Customer Service (AOCS) division at Alaska Airlines (AS) and Horizon Air (QX). As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations on and writes learning objectives while leading teams in utilizing current instructional design techniques and strategies.
Key Duties
With limited direction from the Senior Instructional Designer or Supervisor, design and develop training solutions for multiple front-line workgroups in collaboration with various stakeholders.
Take on ambiguous challenges to implement learning objectives that train to competencies and critical behaviors.
Apply deep knowledge of adult learning principles to act as a consultant regarding Instructional Design and Content Development methodology, standards, and practices to make recommendations on design specifications, storyboards, and simulations.
Analyze data to interpret Job Task Analyses, Needs Analyses, Gap Analyses, Root Cause Analyses, and other types of evaluation to understand user goals and objectives and identify appropriate content deliverables for assigned projects.
Manage moderately complex projects to support timelines, development of content, scripts, stakeholders, video recording, and audio.
Apply industry methodologies to write and revise content deliverables (e.g., online course materials, job aides, classroom materials) per approved content plans, ensuring content deliverables adhere to established standards.
Facilitate informal and formal reviews with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and other applicable team members.
Resolve requests for content updates based on identified defects, product enhancements, Root Cause Analysis findings, etc. to help ensure delivery of high-quality products to our customers.
Take initiative to research new technologies to assist in the continued improvement of content development processes and standards, recommending changes required to match or surpass e-learning industry standards.
Utilize the learning management system (LMS) to upload, test, create and edit course trees, archive courses, and communicate with LMS administrator to ensure adherence to best practices.
Lead the team to administer Train-the-Trainer sessions and other processes necessary to ensure the successful hand-off of training content to the Training Delivery team.
Conduct post-launch evaluations of training content and update course content as a result of these evaluations.
Mentor and influence professional development of junior roles on the team.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
2 years of experience with adult learning principles in instructional design, training development, e-learning development, or related area.
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in learning, curriculum design, education, communications, or a related discipline, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Experience with one or more eLearning authoring tools such as: Articulate Storyline 360 or Adobe Captivate.
Proven understanding of learning modalities and adult learning styles.
Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, presentation, and listening).
Possess strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to execute on multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment where flexibility is key.
Ability to quickly analyze the impact of development changes on a content development project and adjust workload appropriately.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
Knowledge of current training presentation products and emerging technologies for mobile applications.
A professional certificate in Instructional Design or a related discipline. Multiple related professional certificates will be considered accordingly.
Experience with image/graphic creation and manipulation.
Experience working with Articulate Rise 360.
Experience in creating simulations, gamification design, and recording screencasts.
Experience creating compelling visual designs for training that is functional and engaging.
Strong working knowledge of Photoshop and web design.

Salary Range
$67,725 --- $97,450 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
