Our expectations:
Combustion Aerothermal Systems is one of the Combustion module departments within the Turbomachinery organization. The department is responsible for design and validation of the combustion section of turbofan, turboprop, and turboshaft engines. The aerothermal design process uses various numerical tools, including CFD simulations, with validation testing in rigs and engines. This internship will focus on improving the CFD prediction of the combustion chamber aerodynamics and the exit temperature distribution.
The Combustion Aero/Thermal Analyst intern will have the following key responsibilities:
- Use ANSYS Fluent to run combustion CFD simulations
- Establish a methodology for adequate thermal boundary condition implementation
- Explore various Turbulence, Combustion, Radiation and Fuel Spray models
- Review experimental results to understand measured variables and measurement locations
- Validate the established methodology through comparison with measurements
- Summarize and present findings
- Document the findings in reports
What your day to day will look like:
- Review and test models/methodologies for better prediction of the combustion chamber aerodynamics and exit temperature distribution
- Summarize and present findings to peers
- Support improvement of the current CFD process
What you need to be successful:
Must haves:
- Be eligible to work in Canada
- Be enrolled in a Canadian university throughout your internship
- Be able to work on-site in the province where you are hired if applicable
- Pursuing a Master or PhD degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Physics
- Good oral and written communication skills in English (spoken/written). French is an asset.
- Ability to work independently as well as in teams
- Proficiency in ANSYS CAD tools (SpeceClaim and/or Design modeller and/or Discovery)
- Proficiency in ANSYS mesh generators (Fluent mesher and/or ANSYS Workbench mesher)
- Solid understanding of Fluid mechanics, Thermodynamics and Heat transfer
- Exposure to soot and radiation modelling (considered an asset)
- Basic understanding of programming language (C/C++, Python, MATLAB)
Assets:
- Organizational skills and ability to work under pressure with competing and varying priorities
- Project management skills
