Job Description SummaryThe Thermal System Design Engineer will report to the GE Aerospace Thermal Manager within the Advanced Technologies Organization. In this role you will conduct thermal design, analysis, and test definition tasks in support of both existing and new product introduction engine programs. You will utilize heat transfer and fluid mechanics analysis tools and established design principles to propose thermal systems that meet program requirements. Potential components include heat exchangers, seals, and complex fluid delivery systems.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute with guidance the analysis, design, test, and integration of fluid systems to meet business standards, established procedures, and program requirements.
- Independently perform thermal analysis using finite element analysis (FEA) and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis tools.
- Collaborate with large multifunctional engineering design teams; Align personal priorities with needs of the larger team.
- Resolve issues using established procedures. Consult with supervisor and senior team members as needed for issues beyond typical experience.
- Clearly communicate design study results and recommendations to technical experts and program leadership.
- Prepare invention disclosures for technology that provides a competitive advantage.
- Assure proper documentation of technical data consistent with engineering policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical, Aerospace, or closely related field of Engineering.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering role
- This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Desired Characteristics
- Advanced Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with emphasis in heat transfer or fluid mechanics.
- Experience in the fundamentals of heat transfer and compressible flows, including applicable engineering tools and systems.
- Ability to plan, execute, and document engineering activities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Shares critical information, speaks with candor, and contributes constructively.
- Demonstrated effective contribution in a large, cross-functional team environment.
- Strong sense of ownership and an ability to analyze and resolve problems.
- Clear thinker and problem solver; Cognizant of system level interactions and has the ability to identify key drivers and inputs.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
