Job Description SummaryThe Lead Test Engineer contributes to the design and development of materials, products, solutions, and systems. This includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing components, products, and processes. The role is held accountable for quality of work and is responsible for test lab operations, planning, and execution. The Lead Test Engineer functions with some autonomy but is guided by established policies. Driven by hands-on work and the individual’s creativity in test design and execution, the job allows for modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (safety, quality, volume, timeliness etc.).Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for execution of laboratory and field validation testing, inspection, and data acquisition for use in the design and validation of materials, products, and services.
- Leads the design and construction of test facilities, instrumentation systems and the development of test software.
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work includes being a leader on an engineering team for fluid delivery and thermal management products.
- Leads the resolution of issues using established sound problem solving methods.
- Collaborates with a cross-functional team to deliver solutions and results to progress the technology of the group and business.
- Develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and Unison, as required. Exchanges technical information, asks questions, and checks for understanding.
- Has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes or testing needs. Uses technical experience and hands-on creative thinking.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Leads test programs in coordination with the design engineering group.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 7 years of experience in Design/Engineering Testing)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Design/Engineering Testing

- Ability to document, plan, and execute test programs with safety at the top of mind

- Self-starter/self-taught/independent worker/desire to learn
- Fabrication skills: working with hand tools, machining (mill & lathe), TIG welding, soldering, tack welding, etc.
- Basic understanding of electricity, AC & DC circuits
- Experience with data collection software (i.e. LabView)
- Understanding of load cells, pressure transducers, flow meters, thermocouples, strain gauges, etc.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to create test documentation/records including writing test plans and reports
- Familiarity with MTS Multipurpose Test software and equipment operation
- Experience using and interpreting Unigraphics solid modeling software (or other CAD software) and FEA to support the design and analysis of test fixtures/setups
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
