We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Packaging Engineer to join our Powertrain & Electronics Manufacturing Engineering team in San Carlos, CA. The Packaging Engineer is responsible for implementing initiatives to develop effective packaging, enhance material presentation, speed throughput, and enhance efficiency across the powertrain and electronics manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate has 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience designing and testing packaging. The Packaging Engineer is a key member of the team to bring world-class manufacturing techniques to the future of the aerospace industry.

Responsibilities
  • Provide packaging and line-side material presentation solutions across powertrain and electronics manufacturing lines to improve safety, quality, throughput, and efficiency.
  • Meet with internal teams to gather necessary information to develop successful solutions.
  • Create and/or coordinate prototype creation internally or externally through suppliers.
  • Document solutions for expedited sourcing and/or creation internally.
  • Track projects and manage timelines effectively.
  • Learn and identify packaging styles, prototyping methods, and suppliers to become even more effective.
  • Work with the manufacturing to implement 5S across the production lines.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Toyota production systems principles through working closely with our partners at Toyota.
Required
  • BS/BAS in packaging engineering, packaging science, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent
  • 1+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Excellent problem solving and teamwork skills while working with cross-functional teams
Desired
  • Prior relevant intern or co-op experience.
  • Experience in electric vehicles, aerospace avionics, consumer electronics, or medical device

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $66,560 - $101,600 per year salary. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
