We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal or Sr. Principal Engineer Network professional based out of Chantilly, VA.

 

What You’ll get to Do:

The successful candidate should thrive in a fast-paced, quick response, work environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and possess the ability to communicate and collaborate with multiple teams across all technical levels. The candidate must be able to lead the way to maintain and develop creative solutions to complex problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong/Expert support of all aspects of network management, to include but not limited to, planning, network design, scheduling, implementation, maintenance, change management, and support of a mission critical network infrastructure.
  • Maintain, evaluate, test, and apply STIG configurations for network devices.
  • Possess strong/expert skills in planning and maintenance for necessary software upgrades to firewalls, switches and routers.
  • Respond to security findings and events across the infrastructure.
  • Lead in planning and executing engineering projects across multiple teams.
  • Expert in the implementation of approved changes to the system as required.
  • Expert understanding of physical network infrastructures and media types.
  • Superb planning, coordination, communication, presentation, and documentation skills

This position requires an Active TS/SCI with Polygraph, and the ability to pass and maintain at least a DoD 8570 IAT Level II, or higher, certification such as CompTIA Security+, within 6 months of onboarding.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Engineer Network:

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 1 years of related engineering experience.
  • Ability to pass and maintain at least a DoD 8570 IAT Level II, or higher, certification such as CompTIA Security+, within 6 months of onboarding.
  • Detailed knowledge of the OSI Model.
  • Experience with routing, switching, and firewall concepts and protocols, such as OSPF and Spanning-tree, state-full and stateless traffic policies, and IPv4 CIDR subnetting.
  • Experience with configuring, deploying, and integrating network devices and services.
  • Experience with Cisco IOS-XE on the Catalyst 9300 series fabric, such as C9300 and C9400 platforms, and Juniper JunOS on the SRX series, such as the SRX345.
  • Experience in producing and maintaining technical, configuration, and diagram documentation.
  • Knowledge or experience with IDS/IPS sensors and writing policies.
  • Knowledge or experience of writing configuration for and performing packet captures, with the ability to perform basic analysis of traffic flows.

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Engineer Network:

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • 8 years of related engineering experience with a bachelors in science degree; OR a master’s degree and 6 years of related engineering experience; 12 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Ability to pass and maintain at least a DoD 8570 IAT Level II, or higher, certification such as CompTIA Security+, within 6 months of onboarding.
  • Detailed knowledge of the OSI Model.
  • Detailed knowledge of routing, switching, and firewall concepts and protocols, such as OSPF and Spanning-tree, state-full and stateless traffic policies, and IPv4 CIDR subnetting principles.
  • Hands on developing and testing configurations, and implementation to a critical network.
  • Detailed knowledge of Cisco IOS-XE on the Catalyst 9300 series fabric, such as C9300 and C9400 platforms, and Juniper JunOS on the SRX series, such as the SRX345, and all necessary operating systems and procedures for a high available (HA) network infrastructure.
  • Detailed knowledge of packet captures, placement of collectors, and possess the ability to perform analysis of traffic flows.
  • Detailed knowledge IDS/IPS sensors and writing policies.
  • Ability to provide analysis, provide reports, and maintain technical documentation as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Cisco CCNA/CCNP Certification, Juniper Security JCNIA-SEC, or equivalent.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ certificate
  • Ability to lead troubleshooting and create solutions within a diverse network environment made up of Cisco routing and switching, Juniper SRX environment, and other proprietary equipment.
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems, routing, IPSec, and IPTables or Firewalld.
  • Expert knowledge of Cisco Catalyst 9000 series platforms, such as the C9300 and C9407, and Juniper SRX series, such as SRX345.
  • Expert knowledge of fault tolerant, high availability, network infrastructure environments
  • Author and maintain technical documentation and illustrations.
  • Produce and present work instruction documentation, be able to lead discussions during Change Control Board (CCB) with other engineers, including the stakeholder.
  • Knowledge or experience with Configuration Management (CM) processes and the Change Control Board (CCB).
  • Expert knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Expert knowledge of WireShark and PCAP files, and the ability to provide in-depth analysis of the data capture.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic and RF cable and connector types
  • Strong batch scripting and PowerShell for network automation
  • Expert knowledge of monitoring and auditing network
  • Must be able for self-teach, self-learn, adapting to dynamic environments, provide direction to junior engineers, and recommendations to the stakeholder and other business partners.

Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300
Salary Range 2: $120,900 - $181,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
