OnsiteThe Test Engineering team within the Mission Systems Whole Life Engineering department is seeking to fill a Principal Electrical Engineer who will be part of a team focused on the development, integration, test, and maintenance of hardware/software as a part of on-site factory support of test systems to support product testing. In this role, you will develop applications, libraries, and instrument drivers using the software style, development language, and integrated development environment specified by the organization. This individual may have responsibilities across multiple teams in the department.
This position provides the opportunity to contribute to multidiscipline engineering teams. Typical work involves the development of both engineering and production test equipment, environments, and systems. As such, you will contribute to the completion of all stages of test product development for Collins Aerospace test products. You will be expected to act, either as a part of their team or independently, to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of test systems.
This position will work onsite in our Cedar Rapids, IA facility.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain ATE (Automated Test Equipment) test software for a factory/production environment which exercises and analyzes hardware deliverable products
Support cradle to grave efforts including requirements, design, integration, validation, verification, and maintenance for all test software activities
Prioritize, handle, and lead multiple tasks in a production environment
Troubleshooting software and hardware for test equipment development
Communication with an engineering team, functional team, and program leadership
Coordinate several projects and complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules
Prepare and present project / technical information to peers, internal management, and customers
Review product designs and create test solutions that maximize test coverage in the manufacturing and service environments
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Experience with Software skills in C++, Python, C are required
Must have experience supporting automated test stations or systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with software applications using C, NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, or other test software programming languages
Strong technical writing skills and an ability to collaborate with a cross functional team of professionals
Ability to interface ATE test software with laboratory and production tests instrumentation such as but not limited to oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, and/or direct current power supplies
Knowledge of software Configuration Management environments such as Git/Github/Subversion
Experience with file transfer protocol (FTP) and data transfer between Unit Under Test and test set computer for Software/Firmware loading as well as data captures
Ability to reverse engineer existing equipment (i.e. documenting something that is already built)
Excellent time management skills - ability to unsupervised, multitask and delegate work to support technicians, engineering support staff and peers
Some previous experience in managing small teams through hardware builds (parts ordering, build coordination, etc.)
Coordinating test equipment design reviews and ensuring the generation of appropriate design documentation
Design and implement activities required to deploy the project test solutions to world-wide destinations
Highly motivated and possess effective oral/written communication and interpersonal/team skills

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
