Has the ability to make major decisions in the development, design, and production of structural repair, modification, and inspection documentation. Demonstrated leadership capability applying technical knowledge and mentoring skills. Evaluate and interpret AD, FAR, and Delta policy requirements to ensure compliance in all engineering documentation. Works closely with the managers, foremen and technicians of Line Maintenance. Must practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering with 10+ yrs aviation related experience, or Masters’ Degree in Engineering with 8 yrs aviation related experience, or Ph.D. Degree in Engineering with 4 yrs of applied engineering experience, or 10-15 years in a technical aviation related discipline with 4-6 yrs in an aviation engineering organization with focus on line maintenance and repair design. Candidate with less experience will be considered at Grade 7N, SR Engineer.
  • Requires working odd hours and/or weekends (shift work).
  • Adaptable and flexible with the ability to perform and excel in a stressful environment with short deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge and technical expertise related to the principles, theories, and concepts pertaining to his/her job function. A wide knowledge of other engineering related disciplines is also desired. Accurately anticipates the not so obvious impact of various solutions to technical problems. Provides feasible alternatives to solve complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Provides technical guidance, assistance, and work direction to Senior Engineers and Engineers.
  • Should have the ability to analyze incomplete information and implement timely decision making while mitigating risk factors.
  • Must have strong customer service orientation and relationship management skills, strong project management skills; written and verbal communication skills; multi-tasking abilities; proven results-orientation; and strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • The winning candidate must be an excellent orator of effective communication to not only the team but the division and industry collectively.
  • Candidate must demonstrate Deltas Rules of the Road.
  • Internal candidates must be performing satisfactorily in current position.
  • Grade 8/Principal Engineer qualifications listed above. If candidate does not meet Grade 8 requirements, they may be considered for Grade 7N/SR Engineer.

  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Strong background in repair analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Possess the ability to create substantiation reports in support of aircraft airworthiness.
  • Should be able to comprehend and be knowledgeable in FAA regulations.
  • Should possess a thorough understanding of maintenance requirements, processes, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel) and AutoCAD (Solid Works or similar CAD software).
  • Develops both strategic and tactical plans that create a safety-conscious environment resulting in employee safety and well-being.
  • Previous ODA and/or DER type of experience is desired
Previous liaison engineering or MRB experience
Line Liaison Engineering Specific
  • Minimum 5 years of experience providing engineering liaison support for line aircraft and live aircraft operations.
  • At least 3 years of specific experience in the design and analysis of aircraft structural repairs*.
    • Systems/electrical engineering experience can be substituted for structural experience for this role.
  • Previous experience with one or more of the following systems: pneumatics, hydraulics, air conditioning, landing gear, water/waste, avionics, cabin furnishings
  • Winning candidate must have a safety-first mindset.
  • Previous airline, military, OEM or MRO experience with commercial aircraft is strongly preferred. Familiarity with airline flight operations and support systems, 14 CFR 121 dispatch regulations and 14 CFR 145 repair station regulations are desired.
  • Knowledge of composite and/or sheet metal repair strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of both Airbus and Boeing structure/components strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience with troubleshooting systems
  • Knowledge in navigating and understanding OEM standard wiring practice manuals.
  • Previous experience with OEM wiring drawings.
  • Compensation and Title are based on experience level. Develops both strategic and tactical plans that create a safety-conscious environment resulting in employee safety and well-being.
