Raytheon Field Engineering is seeking a Principal Level Service Engineer to advise and mentor our customers and end users on the Engineering & Technical Support for F/A-18 Aircraft Radar Systems at the Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island in San Diego, CA. This engineer shall provide expert level Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) engineering and technical support services to the Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Service Command (NATEC) and Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Fleet Support Team (FST) on the F/A-18 APG-65, APG-73 and APG-79 RADAR Systems.
What You Will Do
- Provide F/A-18 RADAR Systems training to squadron maintainers and aircrew as needed.
- Perform continuous trend analysis to capture software/hardware faults.
- Work to improve the RADAR Systems troubleshooting techniques.
- Report all technical activity and participate in BIT evaluation teleconferences weekly.
- Collaborate with government agencies and other contractors to maintain good communication in support of the RADAR Systems.
- Represent Raytheon to external customers in both CONUS and OCONUS locations as required.
What You Will Learn
- Engineering reach back to the Raytheon F/A-18 Program Management Office to address technical issues related to all aspects of operational, functional, configuration management, operational flight program BIT, test support equipment, technical data package and integrated logistics support.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 8 years of prior engineering experience. Experience in lieu of education can be substituted.
- Current and active U.S. government issued Secret security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience operating and maintaining the F/A-18 RADAR/Avionics Systems. Must have experience with the F/A-18 APG-65, APG-73 and/or APG-79 RADAR Systems.
- Must have a familiarity in the development and field support of Test Program Sets (TPS) for Reconfigurable-Transportable Consolidated Automated Support System (RTCASS) and Consolidated Automated Support System (CASS) family of ATE used in the testing of US Navy F/A-18 Radar and Avionics Systems.
- Experience leading and training military maintenance technicians and Department of Defense (DoD) civilian engineering technical service (ETS) personnel in the maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of military electronics and/or avionics hardware and software.
- Ability to travel and support various technical, programmatic and logistics meetings.
- Experience in all aspects of NAVAIR Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Service (NATEC) technical documentation and related management processes (Technical Publications Deficiency Reporting).
Qualifications We Prefer
- A background demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility in avionics testing, troubleshooting, and fault isolation using Built-In-Test (BIT), Automated Test Equipment (ATE), and common avionics maintenance support equipment.
- Possess excellent technical writing skills and oral communication ability.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
