Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight for the rapid development of air breathing propulsion systems
- Lead and support propulsion system design and analysis tasks using various classical methods and engineering codes/tools
- Collaborate with design and test engineers to develop airbreathing engine direct connect and freejet articles
- Plan direct connect and free jet test matrices
- Conduct testing and post-test data analysis to evaluate engine performance and operability for comparison to pre-flight predictions
- Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution; Analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis
- Interact with internal and external customers; Assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or sub systems
- Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers
- Support new business and prepare proposal material.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) related field from an accredited university
- Minimum of 3+ years of relevant background experience in design engineering
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Specialization in high-speed air breathing propulsion and/or liquid propellant rocket propulsion desirable, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to above
- Working knowledge of compressible gas dynamics and propulsion cycle analysis
- Experience working with the following software packages or analysis techniques preferred:
- MATLAB and Python development
- Trajectory analysis and optimization
- Configuration change management
- Ability to perform quality work within deadlines, with or without direct supervision
- Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to clearly communicate research findings through presentations and reports
- Strong drive for results and continuous improvement
- Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and cooperate with others cross-functionally on multiple projects to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, planning & organizing skills, decision making and time management skill
- Candidate must be capable of performing in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and working in an inclusive, team environment.
Desired Characteristics
- 4+ years of relevant experience or Master’s with 3+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with design and analysis of ramjet and scramjet engines and/or liquid propellant rockets and related system design and analysis
- Familiarity with engineering analysis codes for engine flow path, cycle analysis, and aero-thermal loads development desirable
- Ramjet/scramjet and/or liquid propellant rocket test experience, experience with high-speed vehicle design, propulsion integration and/or trajectory analysis and optimization codes a plus.
- Familiarity with high-speed data acquisition and actuation systems
