The Senior Automation and Robotics Engineer will provide technical and program leadership for the progression of automation in the GE Aerospace additive value stream. They support implementation for material handling robots, including 3rd party devices, define the requirements for commercially available and customized products to fit additive manufacturing processes, support the introduction of the new products and provide product and application support for products implemented at multiple additive manufacturing facilities. They with help cross-functional teams progress through the TRL & MRL process to enable the portfolio of NPI additive aerospace hardware to be produced reliably and cost effectively at high volumes. They will utilize, own, and help improve the manufacturing standard work related to automation and robotics for the additive product family.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities for the integration of automation and robotic products, robotic process solutions or required modifications to existing robotic products.
- Work with GE Aerospace and industry experts to support developing specifications for new robotic products, such as software, hardware, control.
- Develop and execute test plans and feasibility studies for automation and robotics solutions.
- Support system upkeep, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional team meetings including design engineering, quality, inspection technology and manufacturing with a goal of defining requirements and standards for the use of in-process monitoring as part of an integrated additive part quality plan.
- Remain current in the state of the art within own technical specialty for new products introduction activity, performance improvements, cost reductions and problem resolutions.
- Serve as a recognized leader in defining the state of the art in own technical specialty to anticipate, develop and apply technology to current and future business opportunities.
- Provide engineering support, within one’s specialty, to teams working on performance, cost reduction and quality initiatives.
- Leverage expertise to resolve problems in the field or during the manufacturing processes.
- Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Company.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
- Develop and implement training modules as necessary.
- Provide manufacturing consultation on any new work coming into the ATC including initial development schedules, resource needs and cost predictions to aid in key strategic decisions.
- Utilize standard work for development schedule creation of NPI parts selected for execution to ensure manufacturing readiness is achieved to prediction.
- Drive a culture of lean (cost out) by utilizing team ideas, design/manufacturing practices, process capability, and the producibility process.
- Manage process risk for hardware including working with peers and the product team.
- Develop technical solutions and partner with other technical leadership to implement and transition products to our production facilities.
- Ensure company compliance initiatives are implemented and followed.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer/Electrical/Mechanical/Robotics Engineering, or equivalent relevant
- Demonstrated capability in computer, PLC robotics programming and experience or advanced understanding of adaptive motion control.
- Ability to understand, troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing site issues
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes
- Ability to successfully work in teams, and effectively manage themselves in a somewhat unstructured environment.
