Primary Purpose of this position
Responsible for the design, development, verification and validation, along with through life technical support of software and information & communication technology for test solutions.
Main Duties
- Design of test solution software, and the control and automation of test systems.
- To take responsibility for the design and overall quality of the test solution software and provide leadership and guidance for junior engineers.
- Realisation of complex system requirements to provide robust and reliable test solutions.
- Responsibility for the complete implementation of detailed technical items and an understanding/appreciation of system level items.
- Collaboration with other team members (including hardware, software, systems engineers) to agree system designs, interfaces and protocols etc.
- Produce and maintain high quality technical and user documentation at all lifecycle stages using Microsoft Office and other appropriate tools.
- Perform configuration and change management of software and document artefacts in accordance with agreed process and using appropriate tools
- Development of appropriate test software and procedures, both informal and formal, to prove the correct operation of test solutions.
- Maintain the test software and manage change throughout its lifecycle.
- Design Authority for test system software. Upholding of design standards and methodologies.
- Monitoring and reporting of progress of test development activities to immediate supervisor and development team.
- Provide support to end users answering queries & resolving technical issues.
- Proactively support company compliance to Health and Safety legislation through adherence to company polices, processes and practices.
- Ensure that all business activity is conducted in line with company values, policies and ethics codes of conduct.
- Test Engineering Software Lead for a small/medium scale test engineering program
- Application of IPDS and relevant organisational processes. Key contributor at Gate/Design reviews.
- Accountable for engineering specific risks and opportunities.
- Provides guidance on Test Development processes and tools.
- Contribute to section/business area resource planning with a working understanding of Microsoft Project tools.
- Ability to identify and engage the appropriate SMEs to support the Test Development Engineering activities.
- Contributor/Approver for standard/tailored test development process including IPDS gates and content
- Interface to external customers and suppliers.
Knowledge & Experience:
Essential:
- Degree qualified in Computer Science/related subject.
- Expert in NI LabView with extensive breadth of industrial experience including:
- Use and integration of test automation hardware e.g., DIO, DAQ, mixed-signal interfaces and switching.
- Experience of software configuration management and change management tools.
- Strong understanding of common test architectures e.g., GPIB, USB-TMC, PXI, LXI
- Strong understanding of common communications architectures e.g., Serial, Ethernet
- Experienced in the use of common test equipment
- Understanding of software development lifecycles, methodologies and tools.
- Ability to write comprehensive technical design and project documentation.
- Relevant test development industry experiences using one or more of:
- NI TestStand, NI CVI, C, C++, C
- Excellent software and ICT troubleshooting skills using Microsoft OS.
- Able to support/debug system integration.
- Appreciation of test hardware electronic and mechanical design
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
- Good communicator
Highly Desirable:
- Electronic Engineering qualifications and/or experience.
- Experience in other software development languages. HP/Agilent VEE
- Understanding of avionics communication buses e.g., MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429
- Experience in process improvement projects and process documentation.
- Experience with other operating systems/platforms e.g., Linux, RTOS, NI-FPGA.
- Knowledge of environmental testing
- SC clearance
