Job Description SummaryThe Senior Staff Engineers will mature novel inspection methods for next generation HPT airfoils and prepare the business for scale-up and industrialization. Manufacturing, NDE, and GD&T expertise will be necessary to lead cross-product and process maturation initiatives.
This individual will successfully design and implement metrology programs from 3D scanning, CT and CMM data and work within an interdisciplinary team to incorporate the results into process development and industrialization efforts.Job DescriptionEssential Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include MRL and TRL risk burndown, long term strategic roadmapping, developing inspection techniques for state of the art HPT airfoil materials, manufacturing methods, and castings.
Process development from conception to production through TRL/MRL maturation of HPT airfoil additive, casting, and inspection methods focusing on material, process, and part quality.
Build, lead, and execute technical roadmaps and initiatives that expand airfoil inspection methods and capabilities.
Collaborate in an interdisciplinary team to achieve results. Interpersonal and influence skills are required to lead a team to solve multi-dimensional problems.
Proactively leads and collaborates cross-functionally to solve complex material process and inspection systems with key stakeholders including design, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and business leaders.
Support talent development for longevity of business and technical initiatives.
Lead functional teams or projects to find creative solutions to complex material, manufacturing and design challenges. Employ efficient operational/product management, manufacturing or engineering techniques.
Lead in safety, structured problem-solving initiatives, establishing a culture of LEAN, and leveraging data for tactical and strategic decision making.
Support producibility evaluations including reviews and establishment of best practices.
Generates lessons and new standards. Documents lessons and new standards in the established archival systems. Communicates significant developments, lessons, and solutions to the broader team including leadership.
Develop best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve technology and processes related to additive non-destructive inspection technologies.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science or related Engineering field from an accredited university or college
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in materials science, engineering, manufacturing, process development, and/or design
Experience in design and/or manufacturing for turbomachinery hot section components
Able to work in-person (not virtual) > 75 of the time with ability to travel between local sites in the Cincinnati and Dayton area
US citizen or green card holder required for Export Control purposes
Desired Characteristics:15 years of relevant experience in materials science, engineering, manufacturing, process development, and/or design
Experience in high pressure turbine airfoil manufacturing and inspection techniques; specifically NDE and metrology techniques.
Able to skillfully use GD&T to satisfy design and manufacturing needs for part quality
Comfortable working hands-on in development lab, manufacturing pilot line, or full rate production environments
Frequent communication throughout the organization
Embrace and promote a culture of respect for all people in all positions
Ability to read technical drawings
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
Established project management skills.
