HybridCollins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to join our Avionics Systems Safety Engineering team for avionics systems servicing the needs of our Military Avionics and Helicopters, Business and Regional Systems, Head-Up Guidance, or Air Transport customers.
Candidates are required to have excellent communication skills to convey technical issues and status in both written and oral form to internal and external customers. The candidate must be adaptable to change, determined to accomplish tasks based on program schedule, collaborate with their team to make the best decisions, enjoy learning new technologies, be self-motivated and contribute to a positive work environment. Our charter is to promote the system safety and reliability of the design of Avionics systems and products by providing engineers that are specifically trained and knowledgeable in Reliability, Maintainability, and System Safety methods and processes. The system safety engineering field is challenging, unique and dynamic.
This is a hybrid position that can be based in any of the following locations: Wilsonville, Oregon; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Burnsville, Minnesota; or Melbourne, Florida. Relocation assistance may be available.
What You Will Do:
- Develop Perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP4761 or military safety assessments in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, including but not limited to, System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs), System Safety Assessments (SSAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs), Common Mode Analyses (CMAs), Safety Assessment Reports (SARs).
- Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity.
- Review of design and development documentation for safety critical equipment.
- Review analysis of peer safety engineers.
- Mentor and train less experienced safety engineers.
- Accountable to team members and organizational leadership for committed work and responsibilities.
- Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology).
- Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and organizational leaders to develop plans.

Education & Experience You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications You Must Have:
- Knowledge of aircraft or electronic systems.
- Knowledge on how to prepare and present technical information to peers, to all levels of internal management, and to external customers.
- Knowledge on how to coordinate several projects and complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules, engaging in effective time management, working with a great deal of independence.
- Product Safety Experience
- Working knowledge of ARP4761 OR Mil-Std 882E, or other equivalent industry accepted safety standards
Qualification We Prefer:
- Basic knowledge of ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297.
- Proficiency in Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), as well as CAFTA, is indispensable.
- Basic knowledge in reliability engineering theory.
- Recognized technical expert in avionics safety.
- Proficiency in understanding the mathematical aspects of Safety and Reliability engineering, including statistics, probability theory, and mathematical modeling.
- Cross-cultural awareness to navigate diverse team environments effectively.
- Strong adherence to process compliance.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
