You’ll be accountable for applying and developing specialized knowledge in the design, development, and integration of weather observation systems that help the aviation community in Canada from coast to coast to coast. Your technical leadership will contribute to the successful provision of navigation and weather information services across the country, blending responsibilities across product ownership, leading system engineering efforts and stepping in for testing when needed.

Key Accountabilities:
- Provides technical support for national capital program development and formulation of national strategies to meet operational needs.
- Develops plans to meet project or site-specific requirements.
- Prepares detailed plans, system designs, and specifications for the provision and implementation of electronic systems to meet operational, technical and safety requirements.
- Manages large multi-disciplined projects with dollar values usually less than $500K, but occasionally in the $500K to $1M range.
- Provides prompt assistance when requested to investigate technical problems with in-service operational systems.
- Actively promotes a Safety and Quality culture within the Specialty which ultimately will be reflected in the quality of the finished product delivered to the client group.
Job Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree Engineering (Aerospace, Communications, Computer Systems, Electrical/Electronics, Software) from a recognized Canadian university, or certification as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
- Professional Certification: Member or eligible to be a member in a Professional Engineering Association in Canada.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years work experience in the planning, design and implementation of safety or mission critical systems.
- Extensive experience delivering medium to large scale projects without close supervision.
- Extensive experience with system documentation and working with clients to gather requirements/design specs.
- Extensive experience preparing verification procedures.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and backlog management tools.
- Experience in hardware and software development, testing, and deployment.
Knowledge:
- A strong specialized knowledge of the systems and equipment which are the primary responsibility of the Specialty.
- A strong knowledge of systems and equipment which are the responsibility of the other Sections.
- A strong knowledge of theory and principles of engineering science and of the practices in specialized field of engineering.
- A strong knowledge of Professional engineering standards and practice.
- A strong knowledge of functions and requirements of the company operational groups as related to the systems and equipment for which the Specialty is responsible.
- A thorough knowledge and demonstrated skills in project management methodologies, techniques, and disciplines for large projects.
Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to write technical specifications, standards, statements of work and other engineering documents.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize technical information, research best practices and emerging technologies, and develop strategic recommendations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, working under pressure, and meeting tight or conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to research potential development solutions and best practices and to learn new technologies, domains, and tools.
- Creative and innovative approach to solving problems.

Working conditions:
- Primary work location is Ottawa is at the Technical Systems Centre, Hunt Club Road. Position classified hybrid and requires minimum of one day on site.
- This position requires occasional travel across the country.
