Responsibilities
The Position:
Responsible for all product development and sustaining activities for software needs relating to current and future technologies. Partners closely with architecture, systems, product management, hardware and each of the business units, to develop software based on spanet requirements through Director level positions. Assigns projects, establishes/monitors work priorities and schedules. Responsible for standard practices, departmental instructions and modifications to policies and procedures to align execution with strategy. Ensures overall budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained. Owns the overall quality for software features and fixes. Drives the culture in the organization to create a safe environment where engineers can thrive to establish a talent development pipeline. Participates with senior management in developing and authorizing the implementation of strategic business plans. Participates in the development of corporate and/or organizational policy and authorizes implementation with adherence to compliance goals. Sets the organization vision and develops concrete plans to achieve the vision. Partner with peers and team members to define a technical roadmap, software architecture, design and structure. Research, evaluate, and implement new software technologies, processes, and workflows for productivity gains. Lead continuous improvement efforts within software development and bring best practices to bear throughout the development life cycle.
- Strategic Oversight
- Define and drive key initiatives to increase competitiveness of the organization.
- Improve business processes in new product development to increase robustness and reduce non value-added time.
- Participates with other senior level managers to establish and own strategic plans and objectives.
- Create concrete goals and plans for improving efficiency and effectiveness of policies and procedures.
- Develop strategic plans for addressing staffing resource needs to meet business demands.
- Develops corporate and/or organizational policies in anticipation of current and future needs.
- Through assessment of intangible variables, identifies and evaluates fundamental issues, providing strategy and direction for engineering division.
- Leadership
- Directs and shapes the activities of multiple departments through director level managers who have overall responsibility for the successful operation of those assigned areas.
- Ensures that systems are in place to attract, develop, mentor, coach and retain high quality and diverse staff throughout the engineering organization. Create a talent development pipeline.
- Define behavior norms for the organization to drive the culture, ensure there is continued progress.
- Create a compelling vision for the organization and develop set of plans to lead the organization on the journey to get to the vision.
- Provides direction to senior managers in various areas, groups, and/or operations.
- Consistently work with abstract ideas or situations across functional areas of the business to produce desired outcomes.
- Tactical Oversight
- Approve product and project requirements and specifications for software considerations.
- Assure products meet customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Review organization performance against operating plans, standards and established metrics. Identify gaps and drive the organization to meet the goals.
- Collaborate with multiple functional areas to ensure that manufacturability, quality, reliability, durability and cost requirements as they relate to software are addressed in product design. Assure that intellectual property is properly protected.
- Periodically evaluate development activity compliance with documented processes and procedures.
- Prepare, monitor and be accountable for organization budgets
The salary wage range of $195,000 - $327,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage for this role will be the greater of the posted range, or minimum wage for the location where the employee will be working, subject to local minimum wage requirements.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or other related engineering degree, or equivalent experience.
12+ years’ experience in software engineering, building and leading cross geography teams, with a solid background in relevant engineering discipline.
7+ years’ increasing managerial experience and mentoring managers.
Ability to travel to domestic and international locations
Industry experience a plus
