Job Description SummaryAs a part of GE Aviation’s groundbreaking, collaborative Additive Integrated Product Team, you will use your materials expertise and program management skills to partner with manufacturing, sourcing, and quality engineers to support the growth in additive production rates while maintaining and improving quality standards, in support of our commercial and military aviation products. These critical technologies include DMLM (Direct Metal Laser Melting) and other additive modalities in several alloys including Titanium, Aluminum, Nickel, and Cobalt-based alloys.Job Description
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
Responsibilities in this role may include but would not be limited to:
- Support Sourcing and Supply Chain using Additive Manufacturing Methods to improve delivery and cost
- Lead collaborative cross-functional teams (materials, design, manufacturing, quality) to increase the technical maturity of advanced additive manufacturing methods using the TRL/MRL process
- Execute technical projects & programs required to reduce technical risk associated with new additive manufacturing methods, building and leveraging significant domain expertise in the additive field.
- Influence standard work for quality assurance through ownership and/or authorship of key specifications controlling powder, printed castings, and finished part standards; drive efficiency in processes and update additive specifications as needed
- Design and conduct studies to characterize the impact of variation within manufacturing process windows, and use results to recommend updates to specifications, technical plans, and standard work instructions
- Lead or support efforts to ensure part quality with a reduced reliance on physical testing and an increased reliance on non-destructive methods including, but not limited to in-process monitoring approaches and/or other standardized methods
- Provide MAE (Materials Application Engineering) support for parts under development that utilize additive manufacturing
- Make cross-product linkages, leveraging additive expertise to provide insights on current and potential additive components
- Proactively identify lessons learned and best practices and ensure appropriate documentation
- Provide consultation and share expertise with colleagues also developing additive technologies
- Communicate significant developments with leadership and consult on technical roadmap development
- Lead/support root cause investigations and corrective action implementation
In this role, you will gain or build:

- Technical understanding of GE’s most advanced manufacturing technology
- Cross-division and cross-business collaboration leadership skills
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science or closely related Engineering field
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a materials science engineering position or related additive manufacturing position
- Hands on experience with material processing or handling
Desired Characteristics:
- 10 years of experience in materials science, with at least 7 years of industry experience in addition to any academic experience
- Understanding of Additive manufacturing process (i.e., laser powder bed, electron beam powder bed, binder jet) working knowledge and/or operation experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills, particularly around technical documentation
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
- Program management skills; ability to develop, document, market, and execute programs
- Ability to guide and influence others, especially those not in a direct reporting position.
- Understand how to thrive in a dynamic team environment
- Background in material characterization, including metallography, thermal and mechanical property testing and analysis
- Strong background in physical metallurgy
- Experience with titanium and/or aluminum-based aerospace alloys
- Experience with nickel and/or cobalt-based aerospace alloys
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
