Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to join our growing design team located in Baltimore, MD.   You will become part of Northrop Grummans Power Conversion Technology Hardware Design community, working with other engineers to develop state of the art power supplies and power products for military applications.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform power supply design, including simulation and analysis, schematic creation, component selection, and printed wiring board layout

- Perform technical trade studies

- Perform worst case analysis and component stress analysis

- Provide manufacturing support for your hardware builds

- Develop Acceptance Test Procedures and perform first piece hardware checkout/testing

- Work in a lab environment and support hardware production

- Mentor and train less-experienced engineers on all aspects of Power Supply design

This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance and/or SAP. Or the transferal of an active clearance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering or similar STEM degree (Electrical Engineering Preferred) and 12 years of relevant work experience, OR Masters degree with 10 years of relevant work experience, OR Ph. D. with 8 years of practical work experience. Will consider additional 4 years of applied experience in lieu of degree requirements.
  • Familiar with basic isolated and non-isolated circuit topologies & control techniques
  • Familiar with simulation tools (e.g. SPICE, LTSpice, SABER), MathCad, MATLAB Simulink
  • Hands-on power supply or power systems design and development exposure
  • United States Citizenship required
  • Must be able to obtain/ maintain a DoD Secret Clearance/ and or SAP

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Secret clearance (or higher)
  • Familiar with power supply EMI/EMC filtering and design
  • Digital control experience
  • Active power factor correction design experience
  • Magnetic component design experience
  • High voltage design experience (up to 200 kV)
  • Working knowledge of power related Mil-Stds for power quality and electromagnetic interference
  • Power System Architecture Experience
  • GaN FET and other semiconductor expertise.
  • Hardware development team leadership experience
  • Good experience and evidence of Knowledge Transfer Initiatives

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. 

Salary Range: $157,500 - $236,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
