Thermal Management Engineer
Sterling Heights, MI
Contract Position
Join a team dedicated to designing and producing armored combat and support vehicles. As a prime mover in ground force capabilities, this firm provides innovative solutions that ensure the safety and effectiveness of military personnel worldwide, focusing on durability, mobility, and performance.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and release subsystem components related to heating, cooling, and ventilation systems for ground combat vehicles.
- Perform mechanical and thermal design engineering of power pack (engine/transmission), electronics, and crew cabin HVAC systems to meet customer requirements.
- Derive vehicle-level performance requirements and develop engineering design specifications.
- Design, select, and integrate HVAC components while tracking weight, cost, thermal, and power allocations.
- Develop Technical Data Packages (TDPs) and release drawings in alignment with the Engineering Release Plan (ERP).
- Prepare Statements of Work (SOW), Interface Control Documents (ICD), and Source Selection Plans (SSP) for supplier proposals and manage supplier design development.
- Provide technical oversight during design validation, conduct engineering evaluations, and implement corrective actions for production, supplier, or field issues.
- Support prototype builds, create and execute test plans, and generate reports to validate designs and mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and provide direction to designers and prototype shop personnel.
- Plan and manage project schedules, budgets, and estimates for future projects in response to customer requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical and thermal engineering roles (desired).
- Experience supporting prototype and/or production build activities.
- Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup is a plus.
- Ability to travel up to 20 to other facilities and military installations as needed.
- Additional Requirements:
- Eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance may be required (non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible).
- Previous experience working on ground combat vehicles is desired.
- Ability to climb on/off, work in, and work around military vehicles; must pass ASR (Anthropometric Size Requirement) testing for confined spaces.
- Willingness to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required.
