Job Description SummaryMechanical design activities contributing to the design and development of mechanisms, to provide solutions or systems that meet Jet Engine requirements. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components. Responsible for engine program lines operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of mechanical design activities within the Variable Geometries discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.
The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (safety, quality, deliveries, cost, etc.).

The GEIQ Variable Geometries team has full ownership of the performance enhancer (key technology) mechanism that move control surface mechanisms in the jet engines. Because of that ownership -only global site outside US-, our team has had the responsibility and opportunity to fully design the latest GE engines mechanisms during all the Mechanical Design process going from conceptual to validation design reviews and to advance the state of the art of such technology for future applications, which is a rare and unique opportunity even at GEIQ and other design centers at Mexico. In a daily basis the team faces and solves the multidisciplinary challenges that our mechanisms have in production or field to lift people up and bring them home safely. Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Commercial Engines Program Leader is the main contact for the modules and programs with the Variable Geometry (VG) mechanical team, as a leader receives customer requirements/needs and negotiates resources and schedules. Then, the lead designer later translates such information into program plans and resources requests.
  • Lead the implementation of innovative analysis, design, development concepts, processes, and system solutions that meet key stakeholder’s requirements. Due to the proven design experience, execute those tasks with minimal guidance.
  • Own technical & business substantiation of Variable Geometry projects and must be able to present such substantiations on internal and external boards.
  • Communicate project status, business issues or meaningful information that interferes with project fulfillment to the VG staff and propose solutions within available resources or triggers request for additional resources.
  • Coach and mentor others team members in the analysis, design, test and/or integration related to variable geometry components, assemblies or related systems that meet business standards, practices, and procedures, and meet the product/program requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams, mentor others in the organization as VG subject matter expert.
  • Demonstrate a solid mechanical background that allows execution of complex technical projects, giving technical insights to other personnel or teams and to assure the quality of own and another people’s work.
  • Drive the investigation and development of new technologies or methodologies to increase the design knowledge, efficiency, and expertise of the team.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business.
  • Document technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics, Mechanical-Administrative Engineering, Mechanical-Electrical Engineering, Physics or Mechatronics.
  • Ability to communicate with program leadership, understand customer needs and elaborate program plans that satisfy customer and technical requirements.
  • Proven track record of execution and managing mechanical design projects across departments.
  • Demonstrated capability in project planning by managing schedule, tasks, cost vs. program requirements
  • Ability to communicate with and influence Senior Leadership through strong argumentation and presentation skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills: English at intermediate level, Spanish at advanced level
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills:

    • Resilience towards varying project/program requirements
    • Adaptability to modifications in program schedule
    • Experience in conflict management and resolution
