Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is currently looking for an Whole Life Engineering (WLE) Section Manager to join the Protected Communications Systems (PCS) team. PCS is a leading provider of protected satellite communications (SATCOM) for multiple branches of the military providing the ability to securely and reliably communicate timely information in the most stressing environments.  Every day at PCS, our extraordinary engineers are empowered for excellence in an inclusive environment.

This position is specifically for a functional line manager to lead a multi-disciplined team of WLE engineers.  The group is responsible for Reliability, Maintainability, Testability, Safety, and a host of other specialty engineering disciplines.  Beyond people leadership, responsibilities also include acting as the WLE lead to one or more PCS programs.  Line managers must have a deep understanding of the products their teams support and produce and be ready to assist in proposal development and review on top of managing day to day execution.

What You Will Do
    • Review team’s products to ensure they meet internal & external customer requirements
    • Provide mentoring
    • Manage and document the teams upcoming workload
    • Conduct one-on-one meetings with employees
    • Conduct yearly performance appraisals and mid-year reviews
    • Identify employee gaps and overall development needs
    • Perform weekly timecard approvals
    • Approve expense reports
    • Perform cost, schedule, and technical accuracy of WLE products and services
    • Identify Specialty Engineering requirements within Statements of Work (SOWs)/specs
    • Attend customer management meetings
    • Gain knowledge in each of the major Specialty Engineering disciplines: Reliability, Maintainability, Testability, and Safety
    • Participant in program reviews with a WLE focus

Qualifications You Must Have 
    • Previous team leadership experience leading a team of engineers, oversight of schedules and budgets
    • Ability to take an analytical approach and utilize technical knowledge to solve challenges with optimal solutions
    • Ability to communicate effectively with program management, functional leads and government customer
    • Minimum 6 years relevant Engineering/Project Management experience
    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
    • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date 
    • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance 

Qualifications We Prefer
    • Prior experience as a Product Support or Integrated Logistics Support Manager (PSM / ILSM)
    • Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL) and/or Control Account Manager (CAM) experience on DoD programs
    • Prior experience creating compliant technical proposals

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
