Job Description

SUMMARY 

Perform essential duties and responsibilities in machining process for turbine air starters 
and/or aerospace applications. Operate and set up CNC mills and/or lathes using castings, 
forgings and bar stock throughout the shop. 

Starting pay is $20.66 plus 10 NSB. Training on days required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 Operate all machines in work center 
 Operate more than one machine at a time 
 Power up and home machines 
 Understand coolant percentage mixtures 
 Basic housekeeping of cell (5S) 
 Uses gages (calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, depth gages, bore gages, etc.) 
,pneumatic tools, and hand tools to perform and inspect work 
 Understand different tooling functions 
 Understand material make-up 
 Understand and use tool data (offsets, wear, etc.) to insure acceptable parts 
 Review, understand and follow routers, procedures, specification, and other 
instructions for completeness to perform operations 
 Utilize geometric tolerancing 
 Ensures all company paperwork is filled-out accurately 
 Fully understands blueprints 
 Read and understand inspection sheets 
 Identify revision levels 
 Produce error free products through in process inspections 
 Identify nonconforming hardware 
 Meet production goals 
 Cross train 
 Work to established Lean Manufacturing guidelines 
 Understand safety and machining hazards 
 Work under general direction with minimal coaching in a team environment 
 Will also perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

High school diploma or General education Degree (GED), plus 1 year of CNC Lathes/Mills 
machining related experience and/or accredited machining certificate (I.E. Step II or Joint 
Vocational School); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated 
experience or successful completion of classes in geometric tolerancing. Demonstrated 
work experience or successful completion of classes in reading and interpreting blueprints. 

Preferred experience: 

 Prior set-up experience and ability to load offsets 
 Prior Lean Manufacturing experience 
 Prior team experience 
 Prior production experience 
 Ability/prior experience reading blueprints 
 Ability/prior experience reading routers and part numbers 
 Ability/prior experience using work instructions 
 Knowledge of documenting and scrapping hardware 


 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Must be able to read and understand specifications, be able to analyze and interpret 
technical procedures, blueprints and written instructions. Able to read and complete 
necessary forms. Have the ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions 
from team members, coaches and leaders. 

MATHMATICAL DEVELOPMENT 

Must be able to complete relatively complex arithmetic operations as it relates to machinist 
tool operations and have a basic understanding of trigonometry (I.E. sine, cosine, and 
tangent formulas). Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and 
proportions to practice situations. Able to do conversion from and to metrics. 

COMPUTER SKILLS 

Basic computer skills. 

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to define and solve problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid 
conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in 
mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule 
form. 


 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an 
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand at least 6 to 8 
hours a day. Must be able to work with upper body extremities. Must be able to walk, sit, or 
stoop on a regular basis. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds on a frequent 
basis. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds on occasion. Items more than 30 
pounds will be lifted with assistance. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving high speed 
machinery and/or mechanical parts. Employee will be required to use approved chemicals 
and may be exposed to dust, fumes, or smoke from normal machining operations. (Not over 
OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels (PEL)). The noise level in the work environment is usually 
moderate.
