As WestJet becomes more complex and dynamic, we are seeking an additional member on our Global Logistics team reporting into our Supply Chain office.

This individual has the ability to exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoys challenges, and is results-driven. The incumbent must be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to work in an agile environment.

The Global Logistics team coordinates orders from our internal guests (Tech Ops, IT, Sales, Marketing, Airports etc.).  Compliance and safety are our top priority with all orders.  Reporting to the Team Lead, this new member will coordinate outbound shipment for both corporate and technical guests of WestJet’s world. 


**The schedule for this role is Monday to Friday; daytime.**

Responsibilities:

  • Work on the WestJet Hanger shipping floor to package, label and process shipments via small package provider, Air Cargo or truck. Provide customs documents and adhere to customs procedures to ensure smooth clearance and delivery of shipments to international destinations
  • Pack, label and ship Dangerous Goods and ensure safe transportation and delivery of shipments
  • Provide coverage for WestJet Logistics Department, including arranging shipments by air, truck and ocean via email/phone, providing documents such as invoices and bills of lading, light track and trace duties, updating load tracker tasks
  • Analyze and identify the best and most cost-effective route for shipping based on the aspects like urgency, expenses, and estimated delivery time
  • Maintain an adequate stock of courier’s specific shipping materials
  • Ensure that all the policies and procedures of the company or external organizations (i.e. IATA, TDG, WHMIS) have been followed in all aspects of work
  • Coordinate courier deliveries with internal drivers or external vendors
  • Assess commercial and technical goods received for potential hazards and ensure appropriate measures are taken for safe operations
  • Maintain areas cleanliness daily
  • Coordinate mailroom operations, sort and deliver mail and parcels to our internal departments at both the Russ White hangar & the Fred Ring building
  • Assist on special projects when assigned by Team Lead
  • Deliver parts & materials in a prompt and safe manner, in the priority implied or assigned by Lead or guest, while abiding by the rules of the road and the ramp
  • Awareness and ability to plan and place freight in such a way as to ensure safe transport and prevent overloading or risk of damage
  • Provide exceptional customer service and overall support to Logistics’ Internal Guests (Materials, Corporate, and Tech Ops etc.
  • 50-70 of the work requires physical activity such as lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing

Professional Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in logistics or inventory operations
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands (up 50 lbs)
  • High School or equivalent (post-secondary preferred)
  • Strong Communication skills, fluent in English
  • Basic Computer skills; Able to complete data entry and basic level data analysis
  • Basic understanding of customs forms and procedures (asset)
  • Class 5 Operators license with clean drivers abstract (required)
  • Ability to obtain a RAIC (A valid RAIC is preferred)
  • Forklift experience (strongly preferred)
  • Transportation Dangerous Good by Road training (asset)
  • IATA Dangerous Good certification (asset)
  • Experience with Inventory System JDE & TRAX (asset)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Can provide consistent results in a fast paced and time sensitive environment
  • Airline Experience (asset)
