Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector has an opening for a Flight Operations 3/4 (Mechanic) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our E-2 Flight Operations Organization. This position will be located in Saint Augustine, Florida.

In this role, you will be performing a combination of responsibilities consisting of complex mechanical duties in all fields of specialization for the flight line, including but not limited to power plant, run-in plumbing, hydraulics, rigging & controls, and structures & surfaces on the complete airplane. You will be performing mechanical and operational duties for pre-flight and post-flight inspections as well as in preparation of customer acceptance of completed airplanes. You will also perform operations such as disassembling, repairing, replacing, rechecking, testing, re-rigging, servicing, and re-installing of components & systems as necessary. You will be operating aircraft power plants and ground equipment during acceptance checks, troubleshooting and routine maintenance of aircraft.  You may be required to troubleshoot malfunctions and/or defects and schedule/modify maintenance procedures. You will be required to maintain a full practical knowledge of certified aircraft and ground support systems such as controls, fuel, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, fire control, and armament components.

The selected candidate must be able to clearly document maintenance and repair actions, equipment status tags, logs, parts requests, etc. They will be required to perform assigned duties while wearing required personal safety equipment and comply with all rules and regulations concerning health and safety, tool control, FOD control, and all training and certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full knowledge of the job. Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
  • Limited supervision. No instructions needed on routine work, and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments. May assist in orienting, training, assigning, and checking the work of lower-level employees.
  • Duties & tasks are varied and moderately complex. Resolves most questions and problems and refers complex questions to higher levels.
  • Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve.
  • Contacts are infrequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations and are in regard to matters of moderate importance to the function of the department or which may be of sensitive nature.
  • Physical requirements of the job include but are not limited to bending, stooping, lifting 25lbs, twisting, climbing up stands, working on top of and around the airplane utilizing safety lanyards (SRLs), and working in confined spaces, including working in and around fuel tanks.
  • Understanding pre / post flight activities and inspections
  • Ability to service aircraft with engine oil and hydraulics
  • Able to perform aircraft jacking and towing evolutions
  • Understand engine fuel systems
  • Performing maintenance operations on E2 aircraft, aircraft equipment, engines, and component, in accordance all applicable directives.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.
  • Able to setup and use a torque wrench and use common hand tools such as: wrenches, safety wire pliers, etc.
  • Able to remove, replace, check out aircraft components and assemblies.
  • Understand hydraulics; to include primary, secondary, and emergency systems.

We offer Monday through Thursday shifts 6am to 4:30pm, phenomenal learning opportunities, specialized training relative to the E-2D, and a friendly team environment. We are looking for self-motivated, proactive, and goal-oriented people to help us in the integration and testing of the E-2D aircraft for the US Navy and other Customers.

Basic Qualifications Level 3:

  • High School diploma or equivalent AND 4 years of relevant experience in flight line, manufacturing, aerospace, or military environment.
  • Ability to bend, twist, climb ladders, stoop, and lift up to 25lbs.
  • Ability to work in small, confined spaces.
  • Ability to communicate over ambient noise level and a variety of atmospheric conditions.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible schedules to accommodate customer maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain active Secret DoD Clearance within a reasonable amount of time as required by business need.

Basic Qualifications Level 4:

  • High School diploma or equivalent AND 6 years of relevant experience in flight line, manufacturing, aerospace, or military environment.
  • Ability to bend, twist, climb ladders, stoop, and lift up to 25lbs.
  • Ability to work in small, confined spaces.
  • Ability to communicate over ambient noise level and a variety of atmospheric conditions.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible schedules to accommodate customer maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain active Secret DoD Clearance within a reasonable amount of time as required by business need.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • E2 experience and familiarity with E2 inspections, servicing, troubleshooting, removals, and repairs.

  • Engine Run Qualified, or previously Qualified.

  • Experience working on an active Flight Line or active aircrafts

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Knowledge of MES (Maintenance Executing System) and CATS (Payroll & Timekeeping)

Salary Range: $54,400 - $90,600
Salary Range 2: $64,700 - $107,800
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
