Shift: Monday – Friday, First Shift (5 AM – 1:30 PM)
Pay Rate: $28.26 per hour
Shape the Future of Aerospace InnovationPDS Tech Commercial is looking for a highly skilled Research & Development Prototype Fabricator to support cutting-edge aerospace projects in Torrance, CA. In this role, you’ll work alongside engineers to fabricate, modify, and assemble prototype components, playing a crucial part in research and development efforts. Your expertise in vertical mill operation, manual lathe work, and TIG welding will drive innovation and precision in aerospace manufacturing.
What You’ll Do- Precision Machining – Operate manual lathes and vertical milling machines to produce custom one-off parts and modify existing components.
- CNC Machining – Utilize 3-axis CNC machinery for high-precision tasks. (Prior CNC experience is highly desirable.)
- Fabrication & Welding – Perform TIG welding, sheet metal work, and hand forming to support test stands and other R&D projects.
- Wire EDM Support – While direct experience isn’t mandatory, familiarity with wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) is beneficial.
- Problem Solving – Apply expert judgment to develop creative fabrication solutions, often working with engineers who may not have complete design specifications.
- Project Execution – Manage multiple projects, ensuring quality, efficiency, and timely completion.
- Equipment Utilization – Primarily use manual vertical mills, manual lathes, and TIG welders for fabrication and rework tasks.
What We’re Looking ForRequired Qualifications:- 4-6 years of experience in machining and fabrication (classroom experience does not apply).
- Strong experience with vertical milling machines (more emphasis on mills than lathes).
- Proficiency in manual lathe operation and TIG welding.
- Ability to work independently, adapt to diverse projects, and solve complex fabrication challenges.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.
Preferred Qualifications:- 10+ years of experience in aerospace, R&D, or precision manufacturing environments.
- Experience operating CNC mills and wire EDM.
- Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication and custom forming techniques.
