NDE - SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT

SpaceX demands a new type of approach to the traditional NDE Auditor – Trainer role. We require our suppliers to provide premium quality with rapidly evolving designs at increasingly ambitious volumes. We are actively looking for candidates who have unrelenting motivation to enable suppliers to succeed and are driven by the fundamental belief that education and knowledge are power. In this role, you will be challenged to combine that belief, with strong senses of urgency, creativity, resourcefulness and a desire to explore opportunities for hands-on application. The ideal candidate brings applicable industry experience to the table and will be armed with strong communication skills and an innovative problem-solving ability.

To be successful, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to roll up your sleeves and step into chaotic situations, using deep technical and practical knowledge of quality processes and standards, as they pertain to NDE, to understand the current state and most optimal path forward. Engage in, and when necessary, lead NDE vendor development, ensuring the supplier base is being positioned to support the increasing needs across all SpaceX programs (Falcon, Dragon, Starship, Starlink, Ground Support Equipment). The capability to project-manage and drive accountability within cross functional teams, succinctly communicate status and needed action, often urgently, to all levels of the organization. The ability to analyze for and identify suboptimal supplier and internal system process gaps and drive improvement through formal and informal supplier evaluations, corrective actions, and process reviews utilizing data driven decisions. Ability to engage counterparts across the organization and develop/build trust to effectively execute large scale initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead cross-functional project teams to enact and correct systematic problems
  • Identify and collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to better understand RCCA, manage containments, and potential improvements, to drive efficiency of screening, quarantine, and closures and drive them upstream at the supplier
  • Recommend appropriate changes to supplier status based on surveillance results
  • Interact between engineering and technicians when needed for 3rd party clarifications
  • Engage with production management, engineering, quality and subject matter experts to gather required technical information on complex manufacturing processes and technologies
  • Develop policies, standards, processes, and documentation as necessary to ensure continued success by creating course materials, such as PowerPoints, student handouts, and tests for instructor-led programs with student assessments
  • Support the R&D department in technology development for operational improvement and optimization
  • Proctor exams and conduct training modules (classroom and online) for production personnel on a variety of technical topics such as: NAS-410 Level I and II classroom training, certified welding inspection, manufacturing processes and technologies, specific equipment machine operation, processes and systems (e.g. workflow, QMS, safety, using software applications, etc.), and special assignments as needed
Job Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline OR Level III certification in an advanced NDE method (RT-CR/DR, ET-A, UT-PAUT or IM)
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Level III certification in RT and ET OR combination of Level III and Level II certifications in these methods
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical trainer
  • Ability to quickly grasp knowledge of a diverse range of supplier capabilities
  • Practical experience in requirement and specification development
  • Ability to demonstrate an in depth understanding of aerospace NDE applications or the motivation to acquire new technical knowledge, particularly around NDE methods, to engage in supplier evaluations across a larger base and capable of seeking and solving complex problem and organizing it in a manner that helps decision-making
  • Certified auditor to ISO9001/AS9100/NADCAP/TS
  • Proficiency with the development of training programs and materials, including student assessments
  • Demonstrated experience as a team-oriented self-starter, eager to meet and exceed objectives, with the ability to handle a multi-project environment
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Strong communication skills and an innovative problem-solving ability
  • Ability to engage counterparts across the organization and develop/build trust to effectively execute large scale initiatives
  • The ability to analyze for and identify suboptimal supplier and internal system process gaps and drive improvement through formal and informal supplier evaluations, corrective actions, and process reviews utilizing data driven decisions

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position may involve long hours and weekend work as needed
  • Ability to travel; up to 30% of scheduled work may require travel

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

NDE Auditor: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
