Position Summary
Responsible for determining and developing production processes for manufacturing operations consistent with team objectives. Develops innovative solutions through identification and implementation of process improvements in CNC machining technology. This includes applying knowledge of machining technologies, material properties, and print specifications to optimize CNC programming.
Responsibilities
Scope/ Supervision and Interaction:
Position does not have direct reports and interacts with product engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions.
Position reports to Engineering Manager while providing technical direction in plant layout, equipment, machining and other manufacturing concerns.
Essential Functions:
Under the direction of Engineering Manager, utilize judgment in performance of duties in conjunction with company policies, procedures and processes.
Analyze and organize production operations, routings and sequences.
Proficiently creates, maintains, and optimizes CNC machine programs using a full spectrum of G, M, F, S, T code commands.
Demonstrates expertise in programming operating systems using Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Okuma, Mazak, and Cincom controls.
Utilizes a deep understanding of multiaxis (5+) and simultaneous axis machining to improve efficiency of machining processes.
Effectively trains operators to use CNC equipment.
Works with other departments to develop concise curriculum for facility’s specific machining processes.
Evaluates tooling improvements and prepares cost justifications.
Works with tooling vendors and tooling technician to develop and procure new tools and fixtures.
Coordinates the submittal of PPAP samples of new or revised machined components
Decide on machine group for a particular job and make machine layout.
Investigate manufacturing difficulties and determine corrective procedures.
Assist with various related engineering functions, e.g. design, standardization of parts, costs reduction and quality control.
Design cutting tools and layout generation for machines.
Work closely with product design engineers to refine part geometrics to improve process efficiency.
Identifies and implements solutions for issues relating to safety, quality, productivity, and cost reductions.
Prepares documentation for manufacturing processes, procedures, and tools. Prepares reports summarizing analyzed process information and trends.
Qualifications
4 year degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology or related technical degree preferred.
3 plus years of experience.
Must have CAD experience with AUTOCAD preferred.
