The purpose of a Cargo Agent is to work within the parameters of a safe working culture while taking direction and guidance from the Coordinator, Cargo Services. The Cargo Agent will be responsible to promote a high level of customer service while working directly with both internal and external customers. The Cargo Agent will be responsible to ensure that they follow the companies Standard Operating Procedures without deviation and promote a safe working culture within its group.
This is a rotational position. 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off, 12-hour days, 7 days a week for the rotations. Your three weeks "on" will be based in Iqaluit, NU. Rotational travel assistance and accommodation are provided.
Please note this is a temporary position ending approximately April 7th, 2025.
Level: As per the UNIFOR Collective Agreement.
Pay Rate: Starting at $21.00 per hour or based on relevant experience as outlined in the UNIFOR Collective Agreement.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesInterested candidates should be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for following the companies Standard Operating Procedures without deviation;
- Promote a safe working culture;
- Assist with claims for damaged or missing goods;
- Maintain records as required;
- Process load control data;
- Issue Airway Bills and process sales reports for deposit;
- Disseminate information;
- Process shipment and reception of all cargo;
- Initiate claims resulting from missing and damaged cargo;
- Perform other duties and functions related to the foregoing;
- Assist Cargo/Ramp Attendants and Agents if so required;
- Responsible for Amazon processing, sorting, and distribution;
- Communicate to customers;
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and QualificationsInclude, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:
- Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, problem solving & interpersonal skills;
- Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in a high pressure, high volume environment;
- Knowledge of cargo handling and processing procedures considered an asset;
- Knowledge and experience of loading and load control on company aircraft considered an asset;
- Forklift driving experience an asset;
- Proven customer service skills;
- Knowledge of Canadian North’s Cargo computer program;
- Knowledge of Canadian North Cargo and Ramp procedures manual;
- Operational knowledge of company aircraft handling;
- Must be willing to work various shifts (including evenings, holidays and weekends);
- Must be familiar with handling of dangerous goods and be able to obtain and retain a dangerous goods acceptance level certificate;
- Ability to communicate in Inuktitut a definite asset;
- Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program
